Fiscal Policy on GDP from Keynesian view

Classical economic theory (Adam Smith, etc.) assumed that a free-market economy is a self-regulating system that continually tends towards full-employment equilibrium, with optimum economic benefits for everyone. Therefore, the best government economic policy is to get out of the way and give maximum freedom to individual enterprise. The term Classical refers to work done by a group of economists in the 18th and 1th centuries. Much of this work was developing theories about the way markets and market economies work. Much of this work has subsequently been updated by modern economists and they are generally termed neo-classical economists, the word neo meaning new. Classical economic believed that the government should not intervene to try to correct this as it would only make things worse and so the only way to encourage growth was to allow free trade and free markets.

A key element of the Keynesian revolution was its demonstration that these basic assumptions are false, both in theory and practice, and its assertion that, the most appropriate government macro-economic policy is to view the whole economy as if it were a single huge business enterprise which needs to be managed as one. During the great depression John Maynard Keynes asked, "If supply creates its own demand, why are we having a worldwide depression? In view of this question he advocated massive government intervention to bring an end to the Great Depression.

Fiscal Policy is when a national government makes decisions on taxation and spending with a view to influencing the level of production and employment. (Fiscal Policy and the Simple Keynesian Model, 00)To many people, the Keynesian Revolution is often associated with the rationalization of active government macroeconomic policy. Indeed, one of the major appeals of Keyness General Theory was precisely that it seemed to lend theoretical guidance to policy-makers in an era when the Great Depression still had its grip on the industrialized world and Neoclassical economists offered no tools, if not quite the wrong tools, to address it.

Even though fiscal policy is a classic theme in macroeconomics, there is no consensus about the size or even the sign of its effects on private sector behavior. Public comprises like public expending, taxation and any other Government income or assistance to the private sector (such as tax brakes) can be used to influence the level of demand in the economy, usually with the goals of getting unemployment as low as possible without triggering excessive inflation. If we use the same argument from the 10s, we can say that the level of total output or production in the economy is due to the aggregate demand, this being the total spending of consumers, businesses, government and foreigners. In today's economy and due to all the events that had transpired in the last two years the economy has fallen into a recession, and this can be caused directly because of the lack of spending, which is due to the lack of aggregate demand, we can look at it as a chain reaction; the economy start to slow down, the tragic events of /11, and combined with the consumers apprehension of the market, all these issues will lead to shortage of government spending, unemployment, etc.

Using Keynesian theory, this can be solved by increasing government spending or by lowering taxes. This will raise aggregate demand and reducing unemployment, thus encouraging economic growth. GEC and organization that deals with the US Military could be an example of how Keynesian theory works. Since this organization is a sub-contractor for organizations like Northrop, Boeing, Lockheed, L, Raytheon, and directly with the US Military, it depends on the fiscal budget. In order for the company to obtain contracts, these contractors need to get their budget from the government, thus depending on Monetary Policy. One of the things we can look at is solving unemployment by using Monetary Policy increase government spending should be the answer. By expanding the money supply extra spending would occur, encouraging the firms to produce more, thus employing more personnel. The problem with this approach is that demand and supply functions would be affected. Problems with demand could be because of shortage of money while supply could be affected because of problems with firmed wages. This is a monetary policy which looks at controlling the money supply by deciding on interest rates and rate of inflation in order to control variables like unemployment. We could try to solve this problem by combining both, Keynesian policy and Monetary Policy, and hence bringing together the goods and money markets in important. If monetary policy grows thus simulating interest rates, the GDP should grow. The decrease in interest leads to en increase in spending (investment). This input into the economy will result on an increase on GDP and the growing economy.

My assessment of this issue is that if rise on money supply means that supply is greater than demand, the firm would be in good shape because of the extra cash to spend. On the other hand, Keynesian view of economy is that the economy falls into a trap of liquidity. When the money supply is increased, the net result here is that the interest rate or GDP change. Using Keynesian policy as a solution for this liquidity trap, we would have to use fiscal policy. The result would not change interest rates, and will increase national income (government spending would increase). As the input is greater than withdraws, the GDP would grow, and as income grows the monetary equilibrium is not lost. So, for the firm it would be better to use Fiscal Policy because it would not be affected.

I would conclude that there are differences on Fiscal Policy and Monetary Policy, and recognizes the importance of both and a correct balance of the two in order for the economy to be under control. Supply and Demand policies being used at the same time to control the economy will have affects on both the goods and money markets, so the monitoring of any policy used is essential. In this paper I tried to argue that whatever policy is used, various problems will undermine the effectiveness of the policy, and the success of fiscal policy will depend largely on the accuracy of forecasts. I gather that no one policy is good and can be used by itself, it needs to be combined with another policy to better stabilize the market.

Envy is used as a principal theme for the play Othello, written by William Shakespeare. Due to its literary significance, Othello is being performed as a live show at the Stanley theatre on Sept 5.

Although the play holds a deep and spiritual meaning, it does not seize the audience¡¦s interest with unsuitable costumes for certain characters and limited stage properties for important scenes, as well as poor acting techniques of the main actor.

Philip Akin who plays Othello, is not convincing in the role. Because Othello is portrayed as a masculine and proud general under Shakespeare¡¦s quill pen, the moor usually speaks with an intense tone when he is angered. Unfortunately, the actor has failed to captivate the audience with intense emotions in some provoked scenes. For instance, Othello tends to become extremely agitated while demanding Iago for ocular proofs of Desdemona¡¦s unfaithfulness, yet, Akin¡¦s tone of voice weakly conveys the anxiety and jealousy that he is suppose to express. Despite the lack of emotions, the physical appearance of Philip Akin fails to match Othello¡¦s imagery either. Since Akin is tall and thin, he is not muscular enough to be considered as an eloquent and physically powerful figure. Thus, the role of the tragic hero is poorly performed by Philip Akin.

How can people enjoy a show without a sensuous setting, especially if the role of the tragic hero, Othello, is not being portrayed effectively by the actor Philip Akin through both physical and emotional stages? The play deserves a rating of no more than 4 out of 10. Overall, this production of Othello at the Stanley Theatre was a disappointment primarily because of the poor performance of Philip Akin as Othello.

Explanation of Term Transculturation is a term that ethnographers have used to describe what happens when members of a subordinated or marginalized group select or adopt materials which have been transmitted by a dominant culture. The process of tranculturation intersects with language and writing in that the "materials" adopted by a marginalized group might include a written or spoken language.Consequently, the dominant culture's language, rhetorical strategies and writing conventions will begin to be discernable in the letters, narratives and official documents of the borrowing culture. It is also possible that these forms of writing may be used to critique or denounce the actions of the dominant culture that it originated from. The American slave autobiography is an example of a specific genre that is often transcultural as well as oppositional in nature. In the composition classroom students can analyze transcultural texts, paying close attention to the linguistic and stylistic elements that might define them as transcultural.Relevant historical, social and political information will probably play a large role in the examination of these texts.

Relation to the Larger IssueThe process of transculturation, as it applies to ethnography, was first coined by a Cuban sociologist named Fernando Ortiz. As Mary Louise Pratt indicates, Ortiz created the term in an effort to "replace overly reductive concepts of acculturation and assimilation used to characterize culture under conquest"(10).Although subordinated peoples do not necessarily have control over the materials that the dominant culture transmits, they do have control over what materials get adopted and used. There is often an active choice that accompanies the process of selectively adapting materials from another culture.

Custom Essays on Gloria Anzaldua

In her essay, "Arts of the Contact Zone," Pratt defines transculturation and describes it as a product of the contact zone.Contact zones are social spaces where different cultures meet, clash and grapple with each other (Pratt 10).One of the possible social spaces where this contact can occur is in the classroom.Pratt urges writing teachers to take advantage of the valuable learning possibilities that the pedagogical arts of the contact zone have to offer. Some of these arts include " exercises in storytelling and in identifying with the ideas, interests, histories and attitudes of others;experiments in transculturation and collaborative work and in the arts of critique, parody and comparison" (10).Using the arts of the contact zone in the classroom allows for divergent voices and viewpoints to be heard and discussed.

Representative ViewsIn her essay, Pratt uses Guaman Poma's nearly four-hundred year old manuscript as one of her primary examples of transculturation.Poma, who was a Peruvian clerk, wrote a 1,00 page document to the King of Spain in order to demonstrate his opposition to the Spanish conquest of Peru. What makes Poma's letter a transcultural text is that he uses both Quechua (his native Andean language) and Spanish (an adopted language) to write his critique of Spanish exploitation and abuse. The Spanish language is one of the materials that Peruvian's adopted from Spanish in the 1600's.Not only is Poma's document written partially in Spanish, but it also assumes the form of a specifically Spanish genre the chronicle. This particular genre is the one that the Spanish used to present their American conquests to themselves. As Pratt points out, " Guaman Poma took over the official Spanish genre for his own ends" (10).Poma manipulates the language and rhetorical strategies of the Spanish language to offer an altogether different view of Spain's conquest of Peru. His document is thus an example of a transcultural text acting as unsolicited oppositional discourse.

In her essay, "How to Tame a Wild Tongue," Gloria Anzaldua examines the origins of some of the different languages she speaks, and in doing so she reveals the processes of transculturation that helped to shape them.Anzaldua, a Chicana from the valley of South Texas, draws a connection between her identity and the various languages she uses. For instance, she names Standard and Working Class English as the languages that she learned in school and from the media.Chicano Texas Spanish is the language that is closest to her heart and the one she uses when speaking to her mom, younger brother, aunts and older relatives. The eight different languages she speaks all have their origins in English and Spanish; however, they each have undergone transformations over historical time and geographic space.

Transculturation is one of the ways in which languages are created and transformed over time and space.Focusing on the affect colonization has in language development Anzaldua writes, "Chicanos, after 50 years of Spanish/Anglo colonization, have developed significant differences in the Spanish we speak" (187).In particular, she traces the distinct features of Chicano Texas Spanish back to the influences of the Medieval Spaniards. Not only does Anzaldua examine the transcultural nature of the languages she speaks, but she also switches between languages in the writing of her essay.Although her essay is multilingual, she writes primarily in Standard English. For Anzaldua, Standard English represents the language of the dominant or dominating culture. Interestingly, she uses the tongue of the dominant culture as a medium to question and critique the dominant culture itself.

Assignment for StudentsThe purpose of this assignment is to give students an awareness of transculturation and the role that it plays in the formation of language.Once students are aware of the process they can look for signs of transculturation in certain texts.

1. After students have an understanding of the process of transculturation (Pratt's essay is an good source), ask them to read and analyze Anzaldua's "How to Tame a Wild Tongue."

.Have students concentrate on her descriptions of the origins of the different languages she speaks, and the transformation they have undergone. It might help to consider some of the following questions.

-What role does the process of transculturation play in the historical formation of the languages Anzaldua writes about?

-Anzaldua lists six different languages that all have their origins in Spanish. What are some of the distinguishing features of each of these languages?

-What political, social and geographical elements influenced the transformation of the languages?

-What is Anzaldua's relationship to Standard and Working Class English? How and why does she use her essay as a critique of dominant culture in the U. S.?

Trusting someone else with your money is quite risky; in this day and age who you bank with is basically the ones who hold your security in their fingers. Their choices affect your day-to-day life. If they aren't FDIC insured, you could lose your whole life's savings if they go under. Scary as it seems to trust a bank, it is necessary considering you need your money to grow with the economy and the best way to do that is through an account at a local bank. The four main types of financial institutions are commercial banks, savings and loans, mutual savings as well as credit unions. These associations distribute and take in hundreds of billions of dollars each year. Each person who has made the decision to bank must then decide what type of organization he or she will bank with. After talking with representatives from the four financial institutions, I felt that the one that best served my personal needs was the Educational Employees Credit Union.

Although the other three offered wonderful services, the credit union just seemed the easiest and probably the most basic out of the choices. Most of the other institutions presented great offers, but in looking for a bank that will fit my needs, complicated bank accounts with services I will never use didn't appeal to me. Being one who enjoys simplicity, I know that when I do choose to make the decision to bank, I will choose a credit union. After reviewing the Educational Employees Credit Union pamphlets and talking with a representative, I realized that I liked the atmosphere, the security and the reassurance I felt with the information given to me. Like the other institutions, Credit Unions are a banking institution with checking and savings accounts, but unlike them Educational Employees seemed like an establishment that truly had their customers at heart. Just about every customer that walks through the doors of the building knows an employee on a first name basis. Between the friendly atmosphere and the confidence of being a well known-well liked institution, I definitely will choose Educational Employees Credit Union.

Learning about financial institutions and their services is a very good idea for seniors in high school, considering most of us are at the age where we are able to open our own bank account. It is definitely a smart idea to investigate banks and their services as most banking institutions target young adults with flashy advertisements to get them caught in the wild world of credit. With opening an account, you are putting your hard earned money into the hands of a complete stranger. Sadly, it is the greater evil. If one chooses to not bank, their money loses value, but if they do, most are hit with charges and offers they never knew about. For this reason, I am completely sure of my choice to choose a credit union. They don't have the flamboyant commercials or the ridiculous services you couldn't imagine using, they are just a union of people there to serve others in the field of money control. One of the most important decisions as a young adult is to choose where your trust and security will lie. What have you chosen?

Every country has its own belief distinct from the others. A belief that shapes ones culture and recognizes a society. This belief can be formed into a religion and it somehow describes a country culturally.

As a significant factor in a society, religion brings a deep influence to every people in a certain place. Even if a stranger lives in a country with a different religion, he will surely adopt a belief of that country and may influence his own belief. It is because a person normally does not want to be entirely distinguished from the other.

Inflation is the most commonly used economic term in the popular media (Hellerstien). A Nexis search in 16 found 87,000 news stories over the past twenty years that used the word inflation (Hellerstien). Of those 87,000 I am sure that there is a lot that have used the word inflation to express the impacts it has on international trade. Inflation effects trade through increased and decreased prices and value that along with other elements, can influence imports and exports.

Changes in prices here and abroad are also important. If we experience more inflation here than the rest of the world is experiencing, our goods cost more and thus our imports will rise and exports will fall (Buckles). The reverse is true if the rest of the world experiences a greater rate of inflation than we do in the United States (Buckles). For example, in the news paper today there was an article that reported that the US dollar has fallen against the euro. In the article it exposed that there was a dramatic decline in the amount of money international investors were spending of U.S. securities. They had spent 4.1 billion in September which was a big decrease sense August when they spent 4. billion (Bandar). With fewer purchases means the United States will have trouble financing its current-account deficit which is running at around 5 percent of gross domestic product (Bandar). This has inadvertently caused a drop in dollar value against a euro. Yesterday at 58 p.m. in New York the dollar traded at 1.66 per euro, compared with 1.174 Monday (Bandar). The euro was only one of the 15 major currencies that the dollar has declined against (Bandar). As a result the price of gold overseas had increased to 400.5 an ounce (Bandar). Sense are dollar is worth less compared to euros our international trade with Europe would be affected. Thus, purchasing imports from Europe would cost more which enables us (the US) from buying as much as we could before the dollars value dropped. Also since the United States is in deficit from declined sells of US securities the government will have to increase price of our exports and buy less imports. The increased price on our exports might dim the interest in other countries for international trade. In addition, the article said that there were going to be tariff increases on foreign goods (Bandar). This would slow consumer spending in the United States. The tariffs would raise prices at home which would cause disposable to fall because people would have to spend more on the goods they are buying (Bandar).

The United States relationship with China is another example of inflations impact on trade. As of July 1 00 the yen is 116 against the US dollar(Shiokawa). Every one dollar of US money equals 116 yen in China. The drastic difference in inflation can have serious impacts on trade amongst each country. The United States can only buy small amounts of very essential goods from China. Sense there is such a big difference in money value the United States can't afford to buy to much of a good or it may cause a debt. China is the worlds leading manufacture of technology. China has many machines and programs that no other country has. If the yen stays as high as it is then the US will never be able to reach the level of China. The US simply could not afford to import the new technologies because of how expensive it would be. Imports and Exports are influenced by a variety of factors. Increases in income in the United States will increase the demand for all goods and services, including those that are imported (Buckles). Thus, imports will rise as incomes increase (Buckles). Increases in income in other countries have a positive effect on our exports. Decreases in income here cause exports to fall (Buckles). Decreases in income among our trading partners cause our exports to fall (Buckles).

During the Great Depression in the early 100's income was low. The stock market had been a major investment and source of income for many Americans. When the stock market crashed Americans lost money (income) and were unable to gain it back fast enough. Sense the majority of the US had little income they could not afford to spend as much as before. So exports to other countries decreased. The Great Depression is an example of how a decreased growth in spending impacted exports.

Changes in tastes influence import and export levels(Buckles). Recently there has been an increase in fruit and vegetable imports (Buckles). United states residents new found taste for fruits and vegetables makes them in high demand. That high demand will make residents spend more for imports, thus increasing imports from countries exporting fruits and vegetables. Also as the rest of the world finds U.S. software and airplanes more attractive, our exports will rise.

Changes in exchange rates influence exports and imports. Exchange rates are the prices at which currencies are exchanged (Buckles). For example, one U.S. dollar can buy (or be exchanged for) approximately 10 Mexican pesos in international currency markets (Buckles). Or, one Mexican peso costs about 10 cents. Most exchange rates are determined in open markets, and the rates depend upon the supply and demand for each currency (Buckles).

If the international value (price) of the dollar increases (say from 10 pesos per dollar to 1 pesos per dollar), U.S. goods become more expensive for Mexicans and goods from Mexico become cheaper for people in the United States. Before the increase in the international value of the dollar, automobiles costing $0,000 in the United States cost an individual in Mexico 00,000 pesos (Buckles). After the change in the value of the dollar, the same car will cost will cost someone in Mexico 40,000 pesos. Thus, Mexicans will purchase fewer U.S. cars.

At the same time, Mexican goods become less expensive for people in the United States. For example, a Mexican vacation stay that costs 40,000 pesos use to cost someone from the United States $ 4,000 (Buckles). Now, the vacation is cheaper for the United States as the cost of a peso falls from $ .10 to $ .08 (Buckles).

Inflation has proven to be an extremely potent aspect of international trade. Inflation has the ability to completely change how or who a country will import and export. Imports and exports truly are capable of being influenced by many elements of economics. Inflation does effect trade through increased and decreased prices and value that along with other elements, can influence imports and exports.

Notes on Lear.

King Lear can be looked at in many ways ' as an Aristotelian tragedy, a family

drama, a psychological drama, a Freudian interpretation as a comedy of the

grotesque and a feminist interpretation as a patriarchal play.

Tyranny and rejection between parents and children can lead to extreme cruelty,

suffering and madness.

In the 0

th

century Lear has been re-evaluated ' where it was once see as

unactable, it is now regarded as a relevant, popular and effectible play. The

movement away from a strictly Christian or nihilistic interpretation is towards a

version which celebrates the play's complexity and its courage in attempting to

reflect the mysteries and ambiguities of both life and humanity.

Freud's interpretation saw Cordelia's silence as representing death and Lear's

rejection of her silence as his unwillingness to face death.

There is great controversy over whether Lear is pessimistic or optimistic.

Feminist reading of King Lear feminist scholars have challenged precious notions

and assumptions about man's destiny' in a tragic universe. In 181, Marianne

Novy called for radical reappraisal of the plays, claiming that feminist critics had

responded to Shakespeare with the loyalty that a dutiful daughter might have

for a parent'. Feminist critics have not responded to the Shakespeare

establishment as Cordelia does to Lear's demand for her filial devotion. Instead

of saying nothing they have criticised the question, challenged Lear's position as

patriarch, reconsidered the position of women in Renaissance society. A

misogynistic representation of women in King Lear can be seen. The female

characters in the play are either demonic or saintly. Goneril and Regan are

portrayed a despicable, demonic women while Cordelia is a virtuous, angelic

daughter. King Lear is a play about the perpetuation of patriarchal power and

sexual inequality.

Kathleen Mckuskie ' King Lear dramatises a connection between sexual

insubordination and political anarchy. The order of the state is seen to depend

upon careful regulation of sexual and family relationships. When Lear rages

against the collapse of order, it is women's lust that is blamed as the cause of

chaos and corruption. Cordelia's enduring love is not a virtue that redeems

nature' but a response that restores patriarchal authority. Resistance to

emotional power of the play to compel us to sympathise with Lear, and urges us

to exchange the pleasure of identification for the pleasure of critical insight and

Page

understanding. Her aim is to interrogate, rather than accept, the views of gender

and sexuality that inform King Lear.

Coppelia Kahan ' psychoanalytical reading of the play. The absent mother'

allows one to see King Lear as a tragedy of masculinity. Lear's progress is not

towards spiritual redemption but towards a recognition and acceptance of the

woman in himself'. The tragic power if the play issues from its awareness of the

terrible human price paid by a society that represses female instincts and

feelings. Regan and Goneril betray and disappoint Lear by not being mothers to

him', their behaviour issues from their masculine instincts'.

Lear as a religious play

Amazing, ground breaking and shocking. Those are words to describe the inflation in contracts in the world of sports. As player salaries increase higher than gas prices, the quality of the teams is down. It seems as though the only reason professional athletes play is for the money. Its like a race to see who can manage to get the largest amount of money. I believe athletics are only a game, so why should athletes get paid so much? Television stations sometimes try to promote some athletes. The athletes let the money go to their head, so they keep asking for more.

It really seems obvious that athletes get paid too much. Some athletes are extremely good, but there are very few professional athletes that deserve as much as they ask for. Most professional athletes get paid more than any president ever has. Does that seem right?

Every year we hear of some new name, some new player in the sports news getting a new record contract which sets a much higher mark and blows away the high from the year before. So we ask whos fault is this that theses men and women are getting paid more and more? Most fingers point our way, the peoples way, the fans way. We are the ones that go to these sporting events pay $50 dollars for a ticket, pay a $100 dollars for a jacket, and $0 dollars for a cap of our favorite teams. We are the ones who support these teams and the players. The reason ticket prices keep going up is because money is needed to pay all of our great players. It doesnt help that they know that we will pay these ticket prices no matter how ridiculous they start charging.

There are thousands of more appropriate places for the money. Everyday people die of starvation because they just cant afford the amount of food they need to survive. Some schools get such little funding, it sometimes is very hard for the teachers to teach what they need to. The Twins

have a very nice stadium, yet they threaten to leave unless we buy them a new four hundred million dollar stadium.

Professional athletes dont deserve amounts such as, seventy million dollars over six years. If this was a sane world, police officers, firefighters, and soldiers would earn the most money, but instead we decide to give most of our money to professional athletes.(Taylor, Suzi) Kirby Puckett was a great baseball player, but he still makes more money than anyone really needs. Finally, I believe anyone who has a large sum of money, could help the world out a great deal by giving to charitable organizations.

The reasons are simple. These athletes have skills, amazing skills, that are incredibly rare. They do things routinely that we cant do in our dreams. Look at Tiger Woods, Pete Sampras, Wayne Gretzky, Barry Sanders, and Mark McGuire. Instead of watching a Sunday afternoon National Basketball Association game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks, its marketed as a clash featuring star players Shaquille ONeal, Kobe Bryant and Latrell Sprewell. Professional Athletes are making too much money in a society thats salaries and wages are traditionally based on the values of ones work(Jon Shepard-ESPN.com)

Forbes magazine has reported that Michael Jordan made the most money of any athlete in a single year, $78. million, more than half of it in endorsements. Outfielder Bernie Williams of the Yankees and catcher Mike Piazza of the Mets each make about $0 million over seven years. Albert Belle, perhaps baseballs most misbehaved player, gets $65 million over five years to play for the Orioles.(Forbes Magazine)

Teams complain about the athletes making too much money, yet they keep handing out these salaries like coupons. All this takes place in a continuous battle of the survival of the fittest where

only a handful of teams have been successful at winning. The high contracts have caused fans to suffer in the ticket lines. In most of the three top sports, the price of a ticket has increased over 60 percent in the last 0 years. A regular hot dog at Wrigley Field cost $.50, and beverages, including bottled water, are just as high. When the owners hand out these contracts, the fans are forced to help pay in tickets concessions, parking fees, sports memorabilia.(Nielsen, David)

Professional athletes now demand that they be paid what they are worth. Alex Rodriguez, now of the Texas Rangers and Mike Hampton, now of the Colorado Rockies, represent this case by Scott Boras, sports agent, went to Major League Baseball general managers and told each of them that in order to have a legitimate chance of signing his client Rodriguez, the bidding would have to start at $00 million. Rodriguez went on to sign a 10-year, $5 million dollar contract with the Texas Rangers. In a sport where high salaries are becoming the norm, Rodriguez said his high salary would help benefit the game because there will be more intrigue about him whenever he plays. (Jon Shepard-ESPN.com)

Professional Athletes are constantly getting in trouble with the law. The players have all this money they are going to go out and spend it and have fun with it. You can turn to the sports page and read about Rae Carrot a Wide Receiver for the Carolina Panthers in the NFL going to court for murdering his wife, Michael Irvin or Darryl Strawberry once again getting busted for possession of Cocaine and Marijuana or the crazed out lunatic Dennis Rodman kicking a cameraman in the groin. Whethar its Drug violation or Sexual Assault, it seems that the money is making these players behave badly . If we pay these players millions of dollars to entertain us, then it would be great if the could stay out of jail long enough so that the us the fans can see them play, but most of them end up getting out of prison and found not guilty of the crime because of who they are how much they are

worth and how powerful they are. Professional athletes are getting paid millions for just games that are supposed to be fun I mean come on we all play and played them when we were kids and we enjoyed it for the fun of the game and the fun of the sport and the fun we had with the people we played them with.(Gary Horton-ESPN.com)

In conclusion I feel that athletes make a sufficient amount of money for the work and dedication they put forth. People would generally be happier if athletes showed appreciation for the money and give some back to the community or help with charitable organizations. Athletes get paid to entertain the people watching the sport. Most people who watch sports, only watch because they like it. If you like something that much will you go to extreme measures to see games at the stadium or in your livingroom?

Please note that this sample paper on are professinoal atheletes overpaid? is for your review only. Digging

By Seamus Heaney

Digging is an autobiographical account of a common subject in Heaneys writing, 'His family and the bog'. Heaney uses flashback throughout the poem to bring us back to the day of his fathers prime

Buy cheap Digging term paper

Heaney opens the poem with a startling simile "snug as a gun". Seamus feels unique with his pen, it's his comfort, his talent and his weapon. In the second verse I believe the poet is composing or studying, he is interrupted by his father "A clean rasping sound when the spade sinks into the ground." The rhythm is extremely slow here. "My father digging. I look down." The use of pause emphasis the line and suggests that digging is a constant chore that Heaney's father carries out. It is evident that Seamus admires his father very much and gets enjoyment in spectating this simple task.

The digging seems to spark a memory in his mind and he begins to reminisce. He recreates a moment when his father was in the bog. "Stopping in rhythm through potato drills where he was digging. Seamus illustrates the man at work, praising his skill and dexterity with the spade. 'The coarse boot nestled on the lug, the shaft against the inside knee was levered firmly.' Seamus includes himself in the following lines and what may have been his brothers and sisters. The tone is of a happy and content note, so I take it that the poet is extremely placate in this environment with a father he held great esteem for. " To scatter new potatoes that we picked loving their cool hardness in our hands." Typically of Heaney senses are brought into play " the cool potatoes" this use of the senses helps us to concoct the picture for ourselves.

Again in the fourth verse Seamus is full of accolade for his father. He also adds alliteration comparing his father to his grandfather who also was immensely skilled with a spade. 'By God, the old man could handle a spade. Just like his old man."

The sixth verse is dedicated to Heaney's grandfather and is full of praise and admiration resembling verse three, our and five. At this stage in the poem I notice that a ton e of regret is creeping through. I believe Seamus is remorsing the fact that he is not skilled with a spade and that he did not follow in his fathers footsteps like his own father. The sixth verse holds the second flashback. 'My grandfather cut more turf in day than any other man on Toner's bog.' There is a sense of pride here on Seamus's part. That he was the grandchild of the most diligent and gifted digger on the bog. Seamus recollects the time he cycled with refreshment for his grandfather. 'He straightened up to drink it then fell to straight away.' This shows the grandfathers determination and dedication to his work. Seamus writes of how precise and exact his grandfather's tiresome work was. 'Nicking and slicing neatly'

The near last stanza is full of remorse. He brings the senses back into his writing and talks of "the cold smell of potato moulds the squelch and slap of soggy peat". I believe these must be things that Heaney loves or otherwise he would not write "But I've no spade to follow like them."

In the final stanza Seamus reassures himself, he is relieved that at least he has his own personal talent even if may not be with a spade, he has his pen. "Between my finger and thumb the squat pen rests. I'll dig with it."

The immune system consists of many different types of white blood cells that circulate throughout the body in blood and lymph. These white blood cells have various activities and properties that can distinguish them from one another. For instance some produce antibodies that bind or attack foreign material, termed antigen, and eliminated it from the body. Other white blood cells interact with the infected or diseased cells and destroy them. Some white bloods cells act as helper cells, or also known as T4 cells. What these cells do is support other cells of immunity in their efforts to defend the body against infection. But still there are other white cells, T8 or suppressor cells that act as suppressors or dampeners of the immune system and are active after the job of elimination foreign material has been done.

Now, imagine that you just walked into the doctor's office for the results of your annual check up. The doctor starts to read your results and at the end he tells you he has bad news. You're in shock because of what he has just said, "You have AIDS!" This is an every day ritual for doctors.

What is AIDS? This is a question that is commonly asked. AIDS short term for Acquired Immuno-defiency Syndrome, is a life threatening condition that is a result of the infection Human Immuno-defiency Virus also known as HIV. HIV does not kill because it is only an infection, which leads to the virus of AIDS. Diseases that are harmful to a healthy person can be deadly to a person infected with HIV.

How can one get AIDS? You can get HIV by the use of drug practice and use of needles, which is the leading cause of deaths today in the United States. Another way of getting HIV is by having unprotected sex with a person who is infected with HIV or AIDS. This isn't just by having sexual intercourse this includes oral sex. Even if you are wearing protection you are at real high risk. A girl on birth control is not protected from getting infected. HIV can be passed from mother to child. Any mother with HIV or AIDS who is pregnant or has a child…the baby will most likely come out HIV positive. Which means that this child will carry this virus for the rest of their lives. In 185 there was no way to check for the antibodies in blood donor, so if the donor's blood was infected and it was passed on to someone else, the person who received the blood most likely will get infected. These are only some ways that one can get HIV which then is leaded into AIDS. Malnutrition alone causes many of the immunological alternations seen in AIDS including the decrease of T-cell number, decrease of T4 helper cells, inversion of the T4/T8 ratio. Remember HIV is only the infection, which leads to the incurable virus of AIDS.

Buy cheap AIDS term paper

Not everyone reacts to the virus the same way. Some people have a brief illness similar to influenza or flu at around the same time that the body starts to produce antibodies against the virus. This usually occurs one to four months after initial infection. Some people however remain symptomless for 10-14 years. But 60-70% will experience symptoms within the first three years. Symptoms range from fever, aching joints, sweating, fatigue, unexplained weight loss, sickness, and diarrhea. Shingles and herpes may also appear. Out of a group of people who carry this virus, most likely 15-0% will develop the syndrome of severe infections and the symptoms categorized as AIDS. These conditions include lung cancer, skin tumors, severe fungal infections of the mouth and throat, and severe diarrhea. AIDS can also directly or indirectly damage the brain, which results in symptoms of apathy, forgetfulness, and disturbed behavior.

Did you know that in the United States the fifth leading cause of death for people between the ages of 5-44 is AIDS, or that 5% of AIDS start in developing countries. In North America 0,000 people are living with HIV or AIDS, 45,000 got HIV or AIDS this year, and 80% of them are men. About 650,000-00,000 of Americans have HIV. Just think of this…as you walk along a New York street in the day you will pass at least one person with HIV or AIDS every two blocks. Wouldn't you think this is way too many people who are not being careful in our society?

Let's go world wide. Do you know how many people have HIV or AIDS? Almost 4 million! This means that over half of the people infected live in the United States. In Botswana they took a poll and found that 1 in women and 1 in 7 men have HIV or AIDS, the ages are between 15-4. OK, let's go to Lesotho in South Africa, one quarter of their women and a tenth of their men are living with this virus today. In Eastern Europe 700,000 or how about Central Asia 40,000 had this virus and that was three years ago! Just imagine the numbers now!

Imagine you are now 17 years old and your parents died when you were 6, the reason? AIDS! More than 1 million kids throughout the world have lost their parents to AIDS. More than 1 million kids are living without their parents because of this deadly virus. Oh speaking of kids, every single minute six people under the age of 5 are infected with HIV. That means that 8,640 kids are infected by the virus everyday!

There is no specific treatment for AIDS. The only treatment for AIDS is to be SAFE. People who are infected have to take many medications everyday. Some people have to take up to 15 pills everyday and then have to go to the doctor and get shots every two weeks. That's for the rest of their lives. But you need to know that these medications do not cure this virus, because viruses cannot be cured, but these medications help with the pain. Since people take so many pills everyday their immune systems is resistant to the medication and no longer works. Options minimize daily for people with HIV or AIDS. Doctors are researching for treatments, but none have yet been found.

Finally, if you see AIDS as a disease that only touches other people, then you better think again. You need to be careful! Don't think that those who have AIDS are different or that was their deserving of fate. But think about this, if you get AIDS what will you think if someone treated you as bad as others treat people with AIDS right now. I would think of them as more someone to look up to because they are going through something that we can't even imagine, think about taking up to fifteen pills a day, that is an awful number of pills to even think about or taking several shots every two weeks, knowing that you cannot cure your sickness. So when you're doing something unsafe think about what almost thirty four million people are living with and all the struggles they have to go through just because they made one mistake, some not even none. Also, remember when people warn you about AIDS it isn't just a gay or black disease! I'm saying this because most people think that AIDS can ONLY affect black people or gays. IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYBODY!

Please note that this sample paper on AIDS is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on AIDS, we are here to assist you. Case Analysis 1

In assessing the future critical strategic decisions facing Avon Products Inc. certain issues must be addressed

1.Should we seek company growth through market development strategies, expanding into the retail industry, or continue doing business by means of direct selling and kiosk retailing centers.

.Should we expand our line of premium quality products that would be sold in Avon's spa service, or continue focusing on quality products at affordable prices.

.Should we provide greater emphasis towards online retailing, with a focus on a more trendy products (Generation Y) and possibly fragmenting our image, or continue seeking the satisfaction of our core customers (seniors and Generation X)

Clearly, decreasing single digit sales growth (1% from 18 to 1) during an economic boom has made Avon's distribution system its number one strategic priority. With Avon's senior citizen base getting older, and the baby-boomer generation dissatisfied with their direct selling method, there is a need to analyze their sales methods. Strategic decision two provides for those baby-boomers, with their high level of net worth, through the possible means of a high-end products and services through growing spa service, or wellness center. The last strategic decision relates to Avon's lack of a well-developed online retail store. With 7 million people in the U.S. comprising the neglected, but technology rich Generation Y market, Avon has the possibility or reaching the largest teen population in history. In a highly competitive industry comprised of slow growth (.8% from 15-), such strategic decisions will be required of Avon to compete in the 1st century.

The External Environment

Even in the highly competitive world of personal-care industry, many opportunities exist. In terms of the macro environment, a few major demographic clusters remain that have been neglected. The African American population already comprises the largest ethnic group in the U.S, and has an expected growth rate of 11% annually. They are fond of high quality products, especially in the hair care, and are willing to spend more for it. The fasted growing segment now belongs to Latin Americans, who are expected to see a 7% growth rate in the coming decade. Their tendency to towards promotion and acculturation will provide a great opportunity for those willing to fill it. Generation Y comprises the nd largest market when based on age. Low cost products tailored to their unique, fashionable need are a key success factor. Technological advances in online retailing have already changed the face of how companies do business. Retail online sales are expected to increase 140% during 1, and the key success factors for business has been convenient navigation and greater price discounts.

Despite low growth, there still lie opportunities within the task environment of personal care products. Consistent growth, while somewhat low, has long been stable. This provides for more consistent earning even during recessions. High growth is expected in the industry for numerous products hair colorants, self-tanning products, and deodorants.

The instability of foreign currency has provided one of the greatest economic threats to global companies who derive much of their sales overseas. Uncertain how the new Euro will affect European sales, as well as highly volatile Far East currency, profit margins are less predictable. The industry itself has seen younger, less established companies gravitate towards the Internet, thus leaving behind many of the larger retailers. Due to the ease of entry within the industry, many less mobile companies have had to readjust their marketing strategies.

Despite such threats, the personal care industry has future potential. Serious substitute products are non-existent, the emphasis for a younger look provides for continual growth. And while there are few barriers to entry, brand identity is of vital importance to highly loyal customers. But, competition is fierce in the industry, leading to a decreasing growth rate for many companies. Differentiation through brand imaging is a key success factor. Avon's direct selling strategy has been in large part due to the fear of being unable to gain ample space on retailers' shelves, maybe the biggest success factor in the retail industry. Through well-trained and highly motivated sales representatives Avon has been able to compete in the industry since 116.

The Internal Environment

With more personal products than anyone, Avon's greatest strength is its high brand name recognition. This has enabled them to maintain a global presence in 17 countries throughout the world. Direct selling has been their primary means of distribution, requiring high levels of internal relations with their well-trained representatives. Close interaction with their customer base has led to loyal followers, especially with senior citizens.

Having served them so well in the past, Avon's use of direct selling has left them with little variety in distribution. This, in turn, has made them unable to efficiently tap into new markets. Rumors of retail expansion have also led to moral problems within their sales representatives, who are responsible for 5% of their sales. With so little distribution variation, large amount of capital would be needed to expand, thus leaving them prone to high debt and takeover possibilities. The inability to establish an adequate online retail site for many of the same reasons has left many potential customers alienated.

Avon has recently been unable to maintain its past competitively relevant advantage over its competition. Unfortunately, their use of human resources is not rare, as seen by the Mary-Kay Company, and thus imitable. This has led to average profitability over that past few years. Competitive factors in the industry have squeezed profit margins, and new strategic decisions are required to find new distinctive competencies they can exploit.

As seen in Avon's financial ratio analysis (Appendix 5), Avon has seen improvement from 1 to 000. Liquidity has been a problem, having seen their ration below 1 as of 1 (more current liabilities than current assets). Year 000 saw this rate rise to above 1, but has left little margin for error. While company activity has remained constant, their overall debt ratio is above 1, thus signaling a highly leveraged company. Profitability is on the rise, slightly, in terms of Return on Sales and Assets. Return on Equity has increased dramatically, due in large part a profitable 000 in which earnings were retained.

With industry competition increasing, and internal sales stagnant, Avon must make some key strategic decisions in order to keep up with its past competitive advantage.

Adults are quick to tell their kids, "You are too young to know the meaning of stress." In all actuality, teenagers are often burdened with many different types of stress. Issues in the home, for instance parental problems or annoying siblings, can contribute to teenage stress. Another taxing matter for teens is relationships, such as friendships or that significant other. The most obvious cause of stress in teens is the constant pressure from school, specifically grades, exams, etc. Of all the reasons for kids to stress, the most general are family problems, relationships, and school.

One of the most recognized stressors amongst young adults is a problem within the home. As stated by Dr. Michael Conner, the divorce of one's parents can trigger tension. When a family is broken apart and there are children caught in the middle, there tends to be a great amount of strain on the kids. Not only are problems within the home a stressor, but also not having a stable home can cause fretfulness. The teenager that moves around from home to home due to instability in his or her own household is often weighed down by stress and or depression. Constant fighting between kids and their parents are also an attribute to the stressful teen.

Along with family problems, relationships can cause constant worry for adolescents. When a youngster has a fight with his or her best friend, boyfriend or girlfriend, he or she is apt to worry about the issue until it is resolved. Grades could suffer, attitudes could change, and there could even be shifts in personality, all due to stress over a relationship. Not only is fighting with friends painful, but leaving friends behind is also very trying. As mentioned in by the Wholistic Stress Control Institute, Inc., going to a new school and having to adapt to a whole new set of people can be an element of teenage stress. Any sort of changes within relationships can trigger anxiety.

Apparently, family problems and relationships are hard on teens, but the most stressful factor for teenagers is school. According to the Wholistic Stress Control Institute, test taking is a major stress factor. For example, a student has an exam coming up in three weeks. Between the present and the time that he or she has to take the test, there is also homework, class work and other quizzes that he or she has to study for. So collectively, the student is studying for the exam as well as everything in between. Getting descent grades and passing classes can be awfully demanding on young people.

How well a teen fares with his or her family, deals with relationships and handles schoolwork are all elements to his or her level of stress. If the family life is bad, the teens stress level will be high. If relationships fall sour, the teen will often be stressed out. If school becomes too much for the teen to handle, he or she will be highly stressed. So whenever and adult is heard saying, "Teenagers are too young to be stressed," just remember that there are many reasons for an adolescent to be strained.

1.A Clear, Well-Lighted Place by Ernest Hemingway

.Published in 16.

.The deaf old man is the protagonist in the story. A very lonely man who always sits by himself and gets drunk at the caf. He is rich, has no wife, and only his niece is there to take care of him. His language is short and simple, using nothing but incomplete sentences in his interactions with the younger waiter.

4.The elder and younger waiter are the two antagonists in the story that are having a dispute about closing the bar early so that the younger waiter can go home a sleep with his wife. The elder waiter probably doesn't have a wife because he doesn't care to go home early, wishing to stay at the well-lit, polished caf just incase another client comes in for a drink wanting a drink. The elder waiter prefers to stay in the light of the caf than go home. He doesn't like to sleep in the dark showing that maybe he himself is a lonely person like the old man. Both waiters are flat in characters, remaining static and predictable throughout the story. There is a guard and a girl as well that pass the caf late that night. The guard is in uniform because one could see the polished brass number on it, under the street light. They were in a hurry. Most likely because it was late and they were wishing to get home. Again, these two characters are also flat in the story and static. Nothing much is said about them so one can only assume what they were doing or where they were headed. Towards the end of the story the barman stays behind to close up with the elder waiter. He may be bilingual because he speaks a little Spanish and English with the waiter. Not very much dialogue between the two characters, but the barman found way too late for a conversation with someone.

5.It was one late night at the caf, after everyone had already gone home to their families, except for the old deaf man who is always there late. It was well-lit except for where in the shadows of the trees where the old man always sat. The old man was already a little drunk, as he so often liked to do there. The younger waiter was very impatient throughout his whole dialogue with the old man. He was pressed to go home early that night to his wife. Normally, he finds himself going home around three in the morning. It was a little after two then, so he was making a move to get the old man out of there. It was very quiet, late at night at the caf.

6.The younger was anxious to finish up at the caf, growing more and more impatient with the old man for sitting there and drinking drink after drink. He detests this old man because he always stays late after everyone is gone. They are obliged to keep the caf open for this man who is always at that hour. The old man continues to ask for more Brandy even though the waiter does not like to get him too drunk for fear that he will forget and leave without paying the tab. Now, the young waiter had wished that the old man had killed himself the week before when he had the chance. Even though this man has money, he is deeply depressed. The young waiter cannot understand why he can be so depressed if he has 'everything'. But, the only thing is that the old man is lonely. He had a wife but now she is no longer around. He only has his niece there to take care of him. He continues to ask for more rounds, until finally the younger waiter tells him that he is finished and he must go home. Reluctant, but finally heeds to his wish he goes home. The elder waiter the whole time does not understand the younger waiter's logic. He thinks he is acting like an old man for wanting to go home early. The elder waiter is the opposite of the younger and waiter, enjoying to stay late at the caf. The elder stays after talking to the barman for a bit. Finally he leaves and finds himself in his room, lying in bed until the sun rises before he goes to sleep. Insomnia? Possibly fear of the dark.

7.This story is coming from a rd person point-of view. This is a limited point of view.

8.The tones of the story did not change at all and in fact stayed the same throughout the whole story. In the end after the younger waiter left, the tone started to lighten up. But from the beginning until that point, the tone was very rocky between the two waiters. The dialogue between the two clearly shows that they were definitely not on the same wavelength. The tone towards the deaf client was not a very customer friendly one either. The words said by the younger waiter to the old man or even about the old man to the waiter were not at all kind. He even told the old man right in his face that he should have commit suicide when he had the chance.

.There was a lot of dialogue between the two waiters. A lot of the time, there was hardly even a mark of who was talking. One had to assume and follow well to understand who was saying what. Not at all descriptive. In fact the offensive style that the waiter used towards the client made it very uncomfortable for me as a reader to read the things he said right in front of the old man's face. Even if he was deaf. In the beginning there was a long sentence to describe the scene in which the story took place. After that, it was mostly dialogue between the two waiters.

10. I feel that it was ironic that the old deaf man could feel the quietness late at night. This kind of irony is situational. Another irony is the attitude between the two waiters, one wanting to stay and the other wishing to go home. This is more of a verbal irony between the two characters, as one changes from some words in Spanish and changes back into English.

11.The lighting that was portrayed in the story, and how the old man, even though lonely enjoyed to sit in the shadows late at night when it was most quiet. The polished number on the guard's uniform as he walked by under the street light. The inability for the elder waiter to sleep in the dark and had to wait until daylight before he could get to sleep. The ability of the old man, even though drunk, to keep from spilling any brandy on the table.

1. Money, women and working seems to be the drive for men in this world. Yet some people still seem to remain unhappy even if they are missing only one of these aspects. When one does not have love, one has nothing.

1.I found that Ernest Hemingway created an excellent view of two different kinds of men. The men that are always wishing that could have more and are never content. The men who have everything and are still not content. Men seem to never be fully satisfied no matter how much or how little they have.

Themes in To Kill a Mockingbird are as relevant today as they were in the 10s. Many of the ideas expressed in the book are still just as important today.

For instance, childhood memories are just as significant to the present day world as they were back then. They are something to look back on and learn from. The whole book was pretty much a childhood memory for Scout because she is looking back on her life after she became older and wiser. For example, at the way beginning of the novel she says, "When he was nearly 1, my brother Jem got his arm badly broken at the elbow… When enough years had gone by to enable us to look back on them, we sometimes discussed the events leading to his accident." (Lee, ) This quote shows that Scout looked back on her childhood memories when she got older, and used them to try to figure out some things she was too immature to understand.

Another major theme is taking an unpopular stand. People in our world today have to sometimes take an unpopular stand to express their opinion of what is right, as well as in the 10s. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus was the only adult in all of Maycomb County that had enough courage to stand up for Tom Robinson during the trial. Mrs. Maudie was also one of the few people that agreed with him and expressed her feelings about true justice without being ashamed. During the process of the trial Mrs. Maudie quotes, "…there are some men in this world who were born to do unpleasant jobs for us. Your fathers one of them." (Lee, 15)

Mr. Underwood was another person who took an unpopular stand. Although he didn't really like blacks, he respected Atticus and in the end he supported him. For instance, in chapter 5 he writes a long editorial accusing Toms death as the murder of an innocent man. (Lee, 40)

In the United States history, as a society we have been unable to accept being classified under one label. For instance, the financial network of the United States is not based solely on capitalism. Communism also exists in the United States economy. Like the economy, it is hard to classify the United States under one category when it pertains to race. Our place as a racial state has changed throughout history, but still remains a mix of two ideas, racial dictatorship and racial hegemony, working to becoming a racial democracy.

In the beginning, and for most of its history, the United States was a racial dictatorship. Form 1607 to 1865, most non-whites were firmly eliminated from the sphere of politics (Omi 65). The consequences of the dictatorship still exist in the modern United States. First, ''American" identity was defined as white, as the negation of racialized otherness (Omi 66). This was accomplished through laws and customs set forth by the majority. They were created to maintain power in the elite and separate the white from the colored in all aspects of socialization. Second, the racial dictatorship organized the "color line" rendering it the fundamental division in United States society (Omi 66). These "color lines" seem to be most prevalent in institutions where the color of your skin determined where you lived, what school you attended, and where you sat in restaurants and public transportation. Finally, the racial dictatorship consolidated the oppositional racial consciousness and organization originally framed by marronage and slave revolts, by indigenous resistance, and by nationalism of various sorts (Omi 66). It took real people from different cultures and grouped them into one generalized category. Instead of being labeled as your country of origin or where you lived, like Americans or Africans , they were simply labeled black, therefore making them seem inferior to the dominant race. By grouping them into one category of little meaning, it takes away from their individuality and culture.

By the time the 160's arrive, the United States is attempting to make the conversion from a racial dictatorship or a racial democracy. While they haven't reached a true democracy, as it pertains to race, the present day United States falls in-between the spectrum at an idea known has racial hegemony.

Racial hegemony acts as the middle ground between dictatorship and democracy. It incorporated the idea of a combination of coercion and consent. The dominant group, in this case the United States, survives by a mixture of coercion and consent. For instance, blacks were given the right to education, however the level of education received by blacks compared to whites is drastically different. We can see the consequences of this in present day United States. Far more white people attend higher education institutions as opposed to blacks. Of all the students enrolled in higher education institutions, 7. percent of them were white while the remaining 7.7 percent of students consisted of minorities (Internet 4). Breaking down the 7.7 percent we get 10. percent black, 7.7 percent Hispanic, 5.6 percent Asian, and 0. percent American Indian (Internet 4). There is a large disparity in these numbers, however compared to a couple of decades ago, minorities, especially blacks, weren't even allowed to attend school. Minorities' attendance is even on the increase while white attendance in higher education is decreasing. Between 11 and 15, while the white enrollment was decreasing the black enrollment was increased by 8.5 percent, the Hispanic enrollment by 5.8 percent, and the Asian enrollment by . percent (Internet 5). There are now programs instituted that give minorities a chance to attend college when otherwise they wouldn't be able to due to financial resources. While this might not be fair to the white population, it is an attempt by the United States to achieve equality among the races.

Another way in which the United States is escaping from a racial dictatorship to a racial hegemony is through employment rates and wage differences. In the past the minority population made significantly less than the dominant race, and unfortunately it is still that way. While the gap is closing in disparity, there is still a huge jump in the earning of whites compared to those of blacks. Between 180 and 184, white men aged 18-64 made and hourly wage of $.10 while there black counterparts only made an hourly wage of $1.86 (Internet 6). These men were performing similar jobs and yet the white male still made more earning than the black male. Another interesting fact is the joblessness rate among white and black males. In the same time period and same age group, white men had an unemployment rate of 17. percent while black males were at 1.7 percent (Internet 7). What assisted in the closing of these gaps was the move for equal employment opportunity and affirmative action. With discrimination illegal now, the gap was decreasing among minorities and white men and among men and women. What also helped to close the gap was the black race was becoming educated and therefore more skilled. They were able to attend school now and become knowledable in their skills and therefore make more money. These statistics should help to show that while racial disparity still exists, the United States is making an effort to graduate from a racial hegemony to a racial democracy.

From the past to the present the United States has moved from a racial dictatorship to a racial hegemony. While its end goal is to achieve a racial democracy, a lot of work still needs to be done. Our dictatorship still exists but not as openly as in the past. For instance, real estate agents are more likely to point a white couple in the direction of white neighborhoods and a black couple in the direction of a black neighborhood. While helping them both equally, they are dictating where the couple's should end up. We exist in a racial hegemony where coercion of the politicians results in consent of the minorities. The ruling give a little here and a little there, but still have their own motives and interests in mind. Until politics serves the people and not the politicians motives, we will never reach a racial democracy. As long as people are still screaming discrimination, again we will never reach a racial democracy.
