War in the past has been improving the economic states of many countries. However, this is not the case in the war on Iraq. It can not be beneficial to either the US or Canada. The war will result in destruction of Iraqi cities, its people, and Canadas reputation. At the moment, it would be the wisest decision for Canada to remain neutral in the war, and later help the reconstruction in Iraq. Canada can not say it has any reason to take part in war, and doing so will anger a fair number of people.

Peace rallies all over the planet are by themselves no reason to influence USs decision on the war. They would indeed be a poor nation if they suddenly stopped the war because of a peaceful protest. On the other hand Canada will be acting wisely if it listened to the voice of the people of the world. It would bring sympathy to our country from the UN as well as ordinary people. Canada has not often been taking a stand against the USA. This kind of controversial behaviour would bring attention to our nation, and mark it as a peaceful one that obeys not the sole superpowers decision but one rationed by a great many nations.

The key reason the war has been started is that Iraq was considered a great threat to US. There was evidence to support that the disarming process was well on the way. Starting a war is not a good way to get rid of one single dictator that can any day launch his weapons of mass destruction (that is, if Saddam has any). Iraqs economy is at its lowest in the last few decades, and it could hardly be considered a threat. If the aim was to kill Saddam Hussein, then they really should have aimed better. There is nothing to attack in Iraq but cities, and the USA has also already bombed the nearby countries. This is a very bad war to support because it is so poorly lead. It looks like the USs invasion is demolishing cities, Baghdad already partially invaded, and causing the life support cuts rather than killing Saddam or eliminating any threat. I do not see how Canadas support can possibly do any good to any of the opposing sides now or in the future. Possibly, better decision is to help out the Iraqis afterwards so they would not make us their future target in case Iraq ever revives.

Canadas opposition to the war has a negative side. What could we do if US increases the tax on the trade? United States gets most of their natural resources like lumber from Canada. It would not do much good to them or to us to refuse to trade. It has been said numerous times that Canadas position on the war will in no way affect the Canada - US relationship.

Buy cheap why the war on iraq is a bad idea term paper

This war is none of Canadas business. This does not mean it does not affect us. War with a plentiful country like Iraq (oil) affects everyone, but no other country can either change the situation to fit its terms, or get a portion of the income US could acquire through this overtaking. The methods used and the warfare are brutal.

Looking back on the decision Canada has made no to join the war so far, it appears Canada made no mistake. There are good reasons like the methods of war, the absence of the threat, the impossibility to kill Saddam with bombs, as well as others holding Canada back from the war. The war in Iraq is not significant enough to make us pay with reputation and UN sympathy for joining up with US.

Nabokov's Readers and Writers

Vladimir Nabokov has his ideas of what it takes to be a good reader and a good writer. He suggested a little quiz ten definitions of a reader, and from these ten choose four definitions that would combine to make a good reader.

1.The reader should belong to a book club.

.The reader should identify himself or herself with the hero or heroine.

Buy cheap Nabokov - Good Readers and Writers term paper

.The reader should concentrate on the social-economic angle.

4.The reader should prefer a story with action and dialogue to one with none.

5.The reader should have seen the book in a movie.

6.The reader should be a budding author.

7.The reader should have imagination.

8.The reader should have memory.

.The reader should have a dictionary.

10.The reader should have some artistic sense.

I chose numbers , 7, 8, and 10 as the correct combination of definition that make a good reader. Nabokov believes in imagination, memory, a dictionary, and artistic sense and I agree for the most part.

A good reader must be able to identify himself or herself with the hero or heroine of the story. This is a perfect way to make a story feel like a walkthrough. As a little child I enjoyed reading walkthroughs to games; I could actually feel that I was the main role-playing character. Definitely, this is a great way to make the book a bit more interesting.

Number seven and ten are somewhat linked. I totally agree with Nabokov on this part because in order to fully understand text, one must be able to translate it to visuals. Here is where imagination comes in. if one imagines a scene and turns it to real life, one will be able to live through the plot and identity himself or herself as the hero or heroine.

Of course, in order to create a vivid and realistic scene of the plot in the story, one must have artistic sense. Without this artistic sense, the reader will just imagine something totally ordinary and dull. If not REAL artistic sense, at least the reader must have artistic imagination. By seeing the book in a movie, one can be able to create an artistic sense because he or she will learn from someone else's interpretations.

Of course, the reader should have ample memory for the book that he or she reads. I mean, what good is reading a book when one cannot even remember what it is all about? Memory is a must when reading a book.

I would have to disagree on the fact that the reader should have a dictionary. Sorry, Nabokov, but not every good reader needs a dictionary. A passage has many context clues that a good reader would naturally use to find out what a specific word means. Surely occasionally one might pop open the dictionary but only occasionally. A dictionary is for those without good memory. So if a good reader must have good memory, then a dictionary would be unnecessary.

All in all, most of my "right" answers correspond with those of Nabokov's. I agree with him for the most part that good readers should have memory, imagination, and artistic sense. The reader's mind must be balanced with the author's mind and be on the same track. If not, the reader may imagine sometime totally out of sorts from what the author meant to convey. Whatever the author might say, the reader must put it into memory, with added artistic rendering. This, along with my walkthrough example would make a good reader.

The states initially enacted the Articles of Confederation in order to prevent the government from becoming too centralized in their power. Although Congress possessed ample control over the guidance of the country, Congress possessed no power to collect taxes or enforce its laws. In their quest to prevent the government from possessing too much power, a weak central government was created which in turn further depleted the declining economy and conducted poor foreign relations.

Disputes concerning the development of the government arose at this time and brought about a period of economic deflation. New Englanders were in favor of allowing Congress to possess the ability to instill a navigation law in order to possess more control over trade. However, Southerners refused to give up their advantage the obtained from "pitting" American shipping against foreign trade. States in turn created their own closed economic systems. These regulations did more harm than good as their focus was on the prosperity of the state rather than on the nation as a whole. Declining prices for goods resulted. This meant crisis for merchants, but American was unable to protect itself form foreign competition.

The economic deflation brought about public riots and disorder. High taxes, a large public debt, and a scarcity of currency led to severe deflation as well as descending wages and prices.

Americans attempted to open trade with new countries but only found frustration. Although France offered some promising prospects, Americans found more discouragements than advancement Americans were not familiar with French markets and possessed few connections there; they also had no long-term credit which was evidently vital to the trade economy at that time.

The new country also faced problems concerning diplomacy. In order to be suitably diplomatic, the nation needed to possess bargaining power. Offering incentives or making ample threats could have improved America's bargaining tactics. Unfortunately, at this time the nation had little to offer. The government was not able to enforce commercial treaties, offer concessions, or threaten to withdraw privileges because all of these powers lied within the individual states. This became a large problem as westward expansion brought Spain and America into contact along the Gulf Coast. Spain controlled the mouth of the Mississippi River which was imperative for the Americans to ship supplies to Kentucky. Without a strong act of diplomacy, Americans had to relinquish nearly all of its rights to the river. Without a strong Congress to bargain for rights to the river, negotiations dragged on for three years.

Although it was later disregarded, the Articles of Confederation helped to lay the foundation for the new government of America. It gave our new nation perspective concerning the formation of our government and its principles. Although the Articles of Confederation may not have provided the most effective form of government at this time, they provided the government with guidelines to work off of. As a result of the infectivity of the Articles of Confederation, the government could determine where its weaknesses lay and revise them as necessary.

Research Problem and Objectives

The research problem to be examined in this study is to evaluate what are the attitudes of Windsor residents towards the state of health care in Ontario. From aforementioned layout of some of the problems and their possible solutions one can grasp the vastness of the issues facing Ontario's healthcare system. The working hypothesis for this research is that opinions of Ontario residents play a large role in determining what sort of solutions will be looked at. It has been necessary to narrow these objectives to a few things in the political arena. The objectives for this research are the following

1.Determine attitudes toward the state of healthcare in Ontario.

.Determine attitudes toward publicly funded healthcare... toward a two-tiered healthcare system... towards privatized, market-driven healthcare.

Order custom research paper on Health Care System

.Determine attitudes toward user fees, within the present system.

4.Determine the level of awareness about healthcare problems... doctor shortages...emergency room staffing and waiting times... hospital funding.

5.Gather input from Windsor residents as to their suggestions for improvement of the Ontario healthcare system.

The data gathered will show residents experiences as they have interacted with the medical system in the past two years. What were their impressions? Where could improvements be made? What parts of the system are good and need to be retained? How have doctor shortages impacted the people of Windsor? How willing (or unwilling) are the residents of Windsor to have increased taxation to support healthcare, and back the current government in its plans for renewal? The unstated and unofficial goal of this research project is that in some small way could have a real and favourable impact on the healthcare situation in Ontario.

Research Methodology

Research Design As a basis for this report, exploratory research was undertaken. In appendix 1 will be found a bibliography of the sources used. Much pertinent information was obtained from Internet sources. Of special high quality was the home page of the Ontario Medical Association, where much information is available on the state of healthcare in Ontario. Statistics on doctors, nurses, hospital waiting times, funding and much more. Another secondary resource was Canadian newspapers. Among them The Windsor Star, The Globe and Mail, and The National Post. Almost any day one of these would have a very relevant article, many of which were used to furnish background material. A third source of secondary data was collected during our exploratory research, an expert interview was conducted. Mr. Frank Bagatto, President of Hotel Dieu Hospital, was interviewed as background for this report. See appendix two for a synopsis of the this interview.

This secondary research established a starting point for the study, but it did not provide the direct information needed to fulfill the objectives of this study. Descriptive research was used to gather primary data on attitudes and awareness of Windsor residents about the healthcare objectives.

Both of these research methods were helpful and necessary in this project. Exploratory research to establish a foundation, to expand on partially formed ideas, to get expert input on the subject, and to help formulate the questionnaire. The primary research addressed the topics of the objectives set out at the beginning of this project, and yielded the data necessary to drawn pertinent conclusions about them.

The Documentary Film

In a sense, the first films to be made were documentaries. The documentary retains a sense of truth, even when reality is manipulated. The documentary film can change not only the lives of the subjects that are on camera but also the lives of those who see the film. The Twentieth Century is the first era with a photographic record of history, due to the invention of motion pictures. The documentary film became a new source of history. As cameras rolled filming leaders and workers, natural disasters, and the misfortunes of man, history has been changed by the documentary film. The filmmakers have come to be seen as reporters, explorers, chroniclers, observers and activists. Taking a look in to the documentary film is like looking at a reflection in a mirror of ourselves and our society in this century. The fact that the human spirit strives to survive, and in the face of opposition, refuses to lie down is a testament made by the history of the documentary film.

The every day struggle just to get by is experience by many

Americans. Documentary film makers like Barbara Kopple and Steve

James were dedicated to telling the stories of some of those

struggling Americans. Barbara Kopple's Oscar winning

documentary, "Harlan County, USA" (176), was produced when, at

the age of twenty six, she moved to Harlan County, Kentucky and

lived among coal miners for four years. During that time there

was violent resistance by the coal miners to Eastover Mining

Company's policies of exploitation. Kopple became close to the

families which were affected, as well as the workers who

struggled, and became committed to using her film techniques as

a medium for helping their cause. The never ending search for

the American Dream is not just existing in rural,

underprivileged areas of America. The struggle for survival that

continues every day is also right in our own backyard. Steve

James touched on universal issues in his documentary film "Hoop

Dreams" (14). James, with his camera, met two young boys by

the names of Arthur Agee and William Gates in an inner-city

basketball court. The boys achieved a momentary escape from

their lives of poverty, parental drug addiction, and violence

when they were shooting hoops and dreaming of making the NBA

drafts. Steve James, along with film makers Peter Gilbert and

Fredrick Marx and their cameras, documented the two boys as they

worked to succeed at the one thing that gave them hope of one

day lifting themselves out of their desperate situation. That

thing was basketball. "Hoop Dreams" is about success and failure

in all aspects of life, not just on the basketball court. It

shows the power of friendship, support, hope and dedication, and

a person's dreams and aspirations can ultimately see them

through the most dark and dismal times of their lives.

Both films seem to capture an entire century of reality and

the soul of the American Experience; just as stories recorded on

film will continue to inspire and encourage the American spirit.

The search for the American Dream is a journey taken on the back

of the documentary film with the film maker as the guide.

Standing as the testament of the history of the documentary film

Is the undying human spirit always in that survival mode and

never willing to give up to its adversaries.

HISTORY

Project management has been practiced for thousands of years since the Egyptian era. Men undertook projects too large for a single craftsman, even with the help of his sons and apprentices. These projects called for the work of hundreds or even thousands of men, organized and directed towards a common goal.

It has been about a half of a century later that organizations start applying systematic project management tools and techniques to complex projects. Frederick Taylor (1856-115) applied scientific reasoning to work by showing that labor can be analyzed and improved by focusing on its elementary parts. He applied his thinking to tasks found in steel mills, such as shoveling sand and lifting and moving parts. Before then, the only way to improve productivity was to demand longer hours from workers.

After Taylor¡¦s death, his associate, Henry Gantt (1861-11) continued his studies in great detail. His studies of management focused on Navy ship construction during WWI. His Gantt chars complete with task bars and milestone markers outline the sequence and duration of all tasks in process. Milestones mark significant events in the life of a project, usually critical activities which must be achieved on time to avoid delay in the project.

Cheap University Papers on project management

A Gantt chart is a horizontal bar or line chart which will commonly include the following features

æ Activities identified on the left hand side;

æ Time scale is drawn on the top (or bottom) of the chart;

æ A horizontal open oblong or a line is drawn against each activity indicating estimated duration;

æ Dependencies between activities are shown;

æ At a review point the oblongs are shaded to represent the actual time spent (an alternative is to represent actual and estimated by separate lines);

æ A vertical cursor (such as a transparent ruler) placed at the review point makes it possible to establish activities, which are behind or ahead of schedule.

Gantt chart diagrams proved to be such a powerful analytical tool for managers that they remained virtually unchanged for nearly a hundred years. It wasn¡¦t until the early 10¡¦s that link lines were added to these task bars depicting more precise dependencies between tasks.

After WWII, the complexities of projects and a shrinking wartime labor supply demanded new organizational structures. During the 150¡¦s The Special Projects Office of the US Navy developed a technique for evaluating the performance of large development projects, which became know as PERT- project Evaluation and Review Technique. These techniques gave managers greater control over massively engineered and extremely complex projects. Other variations of the same approach are known as the critical path method (CPM) or critical path analysis (CPA). PERT charts depict task duration, and dependency information. Each chart starts with an initiation node from which the first task, or tasks, originates. PERT charts and Gantt charts are often used in project management.

WHERE CAN IT BE APPLIED?

Good project management is vital for large capital projects. These projects can span several years form conception to completion, can cost hundreds of millions of dollars and be constrained by the availability of skilled tradesmen. The most important goal of project management is to define a goal. It¡¦s very difficult to know when a job is complete if the final goal is not clear. Once a project goal has been set, the activities needed have to be defined. On very large projects these activities are broken down hierarchically in what is referred to as a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).

This written piece from the epic poem, Beowulf, begins when Grendel first leaves the marsh where he will begin his journey off to kill a room full of warriors but actually finds the classic hero, Beowulf, for the last time. It is written in the first person perspective.

I swim out of my marsh, saying goodbye to my mom very excited thinking about killing all of the Geats and Scyldings. Jeez, they have been driving me nuts with all of their singing and laughter. I wish I had friends. If I was not such an outcast and had one friend then I would probably not kill them all. No one will be a friend with me because I am a big, ugly, evil monster. That is the reason why I have been killing for twelve years straight. God, I am good because I have never been hurt or harmed EVER! I just cannot wait to kill all of their little bodies. Once they are quiet I can sleep peacefully. Even if for some reason that someone has enough guts to try and take me on, they will never be able to have enough strength to do any damage on me. Finally, I am here! I am inflamed with excitement because I cannot wait till I get to drink their hot gushing blood. I will be as quite as I can. I am touching the door as soft as I can with my fingertips. I walk into the noiseless mead hall to find all of these sleeping men. I laugh on the inside because they do not have a clue.I start making some noise. The fighters wake up and cannot move either because of fear or from to much mead. Just to be funny, I grab a cloth from a table and wrap it around my neck so it will improvise for a napkin. I do not wait any longer. I,

"Snatched at the first Geat

I (Grendel) came to, ripped him apart, cut

His body to bits with powerful jaws,

Drank the blood from his veins and bolted

Him down, hand and feet; death

And my (Grendel's) great teeth together,

Snapping life shut."

I seize the next man. He looks really brave and when I grab him I realize that he is really strong; stronger than any other man in this world. My "/mind was flooded with fear- but nothing/ could take my (Grendel's) talons and myself (Grendel) from that tight hard/ grip." I try to shake him off my arm but nothing is working against this powerful protector of peace. I am surprised that a man can fight me like this. The noise increases as the walls sway but do not fall down. I am starting to get scared because I am thinking that I might not live through this incident. I cannot think about anything except the excruciating pain in my shoulder. AAAHHH!!! He tore out my whole arm and shoulder.

I cannot think about anything except just to get out of here and forget about my arm. I still cannot get over the fact that I have been defeated. I mean nobody in twelve years has anybody been able to do any damage to me. I hope that my mom will get revenge and kill him for me. I really do not think that will happen because she is older and is a woman. I am not at all ready for the scorching depths of hell. Well here I am, at my lonely marsh that awaits my death. I am slowly dying now. Oh great, here comes my mom; I really do not want to explain to her what happened. At least she will try to kill him if I tell her. I better curse all of humankind's weapons to help out my mom in the battle. I bet that the warriors are now celebrating that I am dead now. They make me so angry! I try to get up but I cannot because my "/ bleeding sinews deep in my (Grendel's) shoulder/ snapped, muscle and bone split, and broke." Right before I die, I tell my mom that Beowulf did all of this to me.

Why lollies shouldent be sold in canteens

In my opinion, lollies should not be sold in school canteens. Reasons such as a healthy diet, sugar content, effect and care of our teeth and financial savings will support my argument that lollies should not be sold in canteens.

Obesity is a growing health problem in Australia that affects many children and young adults. Health Education is a prime resource for children to learn about their body and how to maintain a healthy balance. Lollies, being sold at school canteens, are not a way of promoting this healthy balance. It gives the children the message that the school supports the selling of lollies as a healthy choice.

Children between the ages of 5 and 18 years, spend half their days in classrooms; where better a place to teach and demonstrate the ways and necessity of healthy eating and exercise. Health and biology classes teach us about our bodies, and the ways in which cells use food for energy. Physical education classes teach and develop our physical skills to burn and breakdown the food we eat. By teaching students these skills and promoting good health, we are encouraging a better way of eating and living for students. Why then would you go against all of this and promote bad eating habits in the school canteen? Yes, we do need a balanced diet but why incorporate more "junk" into an already compromised canteen menu.

Two of the main problems related to high sugar intake are dental cavities and hyperactivity within children. To help to avoid these we need to limit our sugar intake. Some foods naturally contain sugars, such as fruit or milk. However foods, such as lollies, have added sugars which will therefore increase the level of our sugar intake and increase the effect of these problems. Too often children demonstrate a high level of energy after eating too many lollies which can effect concentration in class. Children should be monitored by adults working in canteens, however that is another issue.

Parents should be aware of what children are eating, which includes knowing what the school canteen sells. They should know what the prices are and be assured that their children are taking a step toward the healthy choice and knowing how to spend wisely. In the past, many canteens were run by the school community to raise funds for the school itself. These days, canteens are run as a small business. They are out to make a profit and by selling lollies, canteens are can be sure that children will buy the lollies whatever the price! Although some children eat healthy foods at home, that at school they bring money to buy lollies and other "junk foods" so that they don't feel different from their friends. They may bring their lunch to school everyday and find that they are seen as abnormal because of their good habits. Other children may tease or "talk" them into going to the canteen and wasting money on "junk foods".

I am not saying that there children should not eat lollies but that canteens should be a role model as to the good types of food that should be eaten. Even if a food is healthy it can still be cool to eat it. This could be a job of the canteen to promote healthy foods as cool to keep parents happy and to change student's thoughts on healthy eating.

We can help change the fact that 'Australia is the second highest obesity population after America' by providing children with healthy choices and promoting these foods as 'cool'. Giving children other alternatives should be the responsibility of the school canteens. Selling lollies in school canteens is not a healthy choice!

THE ISLAND of the

BLUE DOLPHINS

The author of this book is a great writer that has written many books, and this mans' name is Scott O'Dell. Scott was born in Los Angles and currently lives in Stoneapple Farm, Julian, an 1870 gold mining town in the mountains of San Diego with his wife. One of his books is called the 'Country of the Sun' on the history of Southern California. He has written many other books that are very famous in America and around the world.

This book was about a truely courageous girl named Karana who spends 18 years on the Island of the Blue Dolphin alone. The Aleuts who were Russians killed half of her Tribe {named Ghalasat}. The Aleuts came to kill otter promising that they will split the catch 5050. After the Aleuts were finished they broke there promise and the two sides got in a fight that killed most of the men of Ghalasaat. The next summer another ship came however it wasn't the Aleuts ship but some people who were going to take them away from the Island to another place. The tribe took nothing with them on the journey. When everybody got on the ship Karana realized that her brother was missing. He asked everyone the ship but they had no clew. When Karana looked toward the Island he saw his bother standing on the cliff looking back at them. Karana couldn't bare leaving her brother alone on the island so she jumped of the boat and headed in the direction of the island. The ship had to leave with out them because a storm was coming. It wasn't long when one day Karana woke up and recognized that her brother wasn't there. She waited until the afternoon, and than finally set out to find him. After a few minutes she found his corpse chewed up by wild dogs. She lost her only companion. Than you read on how she finds food for herself and how she decides to kill the wild dogs but instead made one her pet. After she spent a few years on the Island the Aleuts came back to kill more otters. She didn't want the Aleuts to discover her so she decides to hide in a cave. Than one day an Aleut girl came by and discovered the cave and Karana but did not let the rest of the Aleuts know. Soon they became best of friends, and Karana was really happy because it had been such a long time since she had talked to someone. When the Aleuts left she was heart broken because her friend had to leave to. She spent a few more years on the Island and in those years her pet dog died so she got a new one, and she got pet birds. In the 18th year the people who took away her tribe came back to take her away to.

The good thing about this book is that it's a true story and also how Scott explains everything so thoroughly that it makes you imagine the object he's talking about. For example when he says 'the head rose out of the twisting arms like a giant stalk. The gold eyes with there black rims were fixed on me' this is when he was talking about the giant Devilfish.

The thing I didn't like about the book is how he kept on skipping like a year or two, to try, like when he says 'another summer had gone and I still hadn't speared the giant devilfish' now here we don't know what she did instead of not spearing the devilfish. But I think he did this to make the story shorter for the readers. Either then that everything was great.

My over all rating for this book is /10. I gave it such a high mark, because I really liked the book and the best part about is like I said it's a true story about a girl alone on Island for 18 years, and also how a Karana a girl survived on the Is land with all those wild dogs and other dangerous stuff.

Andrew Lloyd Webber was born on March , 148 to William and Jean Lloyd Webber. The musical Cats paired Andrew with the deceased poet T.S. Eliot and producer, Cameron Mackintosh. It was an incredible hit and beat A Chorus Line for longest running musical and highest grossing musical. Cats made Andrew rich and famous. It all began when Lloyd Webber showcased a song cycle he had written based on Eliot's book of poems at his country house, Sydmonton. T. S. Eliots widow Valerie came to see the performance in 180, liked the songs, and gave Andrew a cache of relevant unfinished fragments, unpublished poems and letters, including one in which Eliot pondered the possibility of ending the OLD POSSUMS collection with a poem about dance. The idea of a musical was born. Lloyd Webber had broached the subject to Hal Prince, an American musical theater director. He knew he needed some magical concept, or brilliant trick, to transform the song cycle into a show. Prince was skeptical at first, then Trevor Nunn stepped in. Nunn envisaged a delightful small show, Cameron and Andrew said absolutely not. They were thinking full-scale musical, full orchestra, and lots of dance. Nunn still demurred, saying that there had to be an idea for a story line. He then read a poem Eliot had not included in OLD POSSUMS, the key to it all was a lost fragment of Eliots work, Grizabella the Glamour Cat. The poet had deemed them too upsetting for children to read and pulled them from the published text. When the show moved to the drastically altered and heavily gutted Winter Garden theater in New York, in October 18, it opened to a new Broadway ticket top-price of $45 and an all-time record advance of ten million dollars. (www.pbs.org)

I think the theme of Cats is diversity, the celebration of differences. The cats emerge one by one singing of their unique abilities and special traits. First we see Jennyanydots who sleeps and lounges around all day long. But at night, she becomes a super-active nanny. She instructs the mice in music and crochet work, and keeps the cockroaches busy. The second cat we are introduced to is The Rum Tum Tugger, a playful prankster that the female cats find extremely attractive. Tugger explains how fussy he can be, he wants what he doesn't have, and doesn't want what's offered to him. The one thing that he always enjoys is being the center of attention. Next comes the outcast figure Grizabella, The Glamour Cat. Although she is a Jellicle Cat, the rest of the tribe shuns her. She had left the tribe years ago to explore the outside world. The outside world has been hard on her, however, and she who was once a beautiful and glamorous feline is now tattered and torn, none of the other cats will touch her. The hefty Bustopher Jones comes next. A large twenty-five pounder, always clad in his signature white spats, Bustopher spends his time eating, eating and eating in one of the many English pubs and clubs that he frequents. Macavity is introduced by a thunderous crash, followed by the sound of police sirens and flashing red lights. Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer, are a fun loving, frolicking team of pranksters, always getting in trouble with the family with whom they live. Gus the Theatre Cat appears next. Hes an aged stage actor suffering from palsy, who worked with the greatest actors of his day. Gus tells of his greatest theatrical triumphs, and yearns to do it again. We are pulled back to the present as Skimbleshanks The Railway Cat introduces himself. A friendly uncle to all of the cats, Skimbleshanks attends the trains he rides, and makes sure every detail is perfect. Each of the cats has their own unique personality, much like humans. Each of them wants to be "reborn" and start a brand new Jellicle life.

MENTOR SELECTION

The transition from high school to college isn't always an easy one. Living away from home, the new-found freedom coupled with a whole new world of people can be anything from unnerving, to misleading. There are various obstacles that need to be overcome and important decisions and choices to make. However colleges, especially those like DePauw, are places of tremendous opportunity and learning for those who choose wisely and get a firm, focused grasp of the situation. The years spent in college are not only exciting and fruitful, but are often the pivotal years of one's life. It is in college that a person chooses the path that he or she is going to follow, and this journey starts when that person first walks onto campus as a first-year student. Thus it is essential that these very choices are made intelligently and this is where the role of the mentor comes into play.

A mentor by denotation is a 'trusted counselor or guide.' It is the mentor who, if he or she chooses to, can play a very important part in the incipient stages of college life. I personally am a great believer in the idea of a 'peer mentor' who I consider to be much more influential than adults who, in more cases than not, are looked upon with rebellion, even if the advice and guidance offered is identical to that of the peer. The mentor can motivate a student to perform to his or her potential in academics, extra-curricular activities, and to take an active interest in the college community. Thus, guidance and encouragement are the primary responsibilities of a mentor. However, there are other things whose importance cannot be underplayed. A mentor can not only be a guide but can also be a close friend and confidante. He or she can be the one to introduce a new student to all the resources and facilities that the college has to offer. A mentor can also be a way to get to know and interact with the upperclassmen whose experiences, stories and advice can be a source of otherwise unattainable knowledge. The possibilities are tremendous.

What makes me a strong candidate? As School Captain I was regarded as an elder brother who many of the younger students aspired to. Many of my peers came to me with their problems and looked to me for help and support. Also, the many instances when I was not the one giving the advice; but, receiving it from them. Another important aspect which Nathan, a present mentor who spoke at the information session, placed great emphasis on - how much a mentor can learn from his or her first-year group. In college, I am involved in various activities on campus and yet have managed to remain on track with my academics. But, all this and more is already present on the resume I have submitted earlier. Therefore, I would rather mention what, in my opinion, is the main reason that I consider myself to be a strong candidate for mentorship my desire to be one. I want to be mentor. I can speak from personal experience that I have, in the past, been greatly influenced by many of my friends. In some cases it was their fierce determination to do well academically that stirred the competitive spirit in me and drove me to achieve what I wasn't sure I could. In other cases, it was sometimes their behavior or their approach to a specific matter, and at other times just the way they carried themselves and led their own lives. Occasionally when I got too intensely involved in doing too many things, it was just the way in which they helped me break out of it and relax. But in all these cases, they had a positive influence on my life and I have memories to last me forever. I would like to be this positive influence as a mentor.

In The Tempest, author William Shakespeare uses vivid imagery to show how reality, illusion, magic, and dreams can be contrasted among each other to interpret the true meaning of this story more in depth. The imagery of sound, sleep and dreaming, and water all make it easier for the reader to understand the many complex themes that are in The Tempest.

Throughout the story of The Tempest, images of sound stand out, each connected to another element in the play such as reality, illusion, magic, and dreams of the play. Many of these appear in Act II, scene ii, as Caliban talks to Trinculo and Stephano of the noises surrounding them in the woods. Caliban is the only character out of them who shows a sudden interest for finer things, and may not be as beastly and mean as we originally thought he was , as Caliban shows in the lines The isle is full of noises and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not. (III, ii, 16-7) Caliban, uses sweet words about the noises to prove that he might be a little more civilized than how he acted previously, which proves how an illusion can change one's view and totally twist it to another view. Other examples of sound imagery appear throughout the play, such as when Prospero says Some heavenly music, (V, i, 5) connecting to the plays themes of magic and dreams. In contrast to the sweet songs heard by Caliban, in the first act we are drawn to the bad noises of the storm and crew. Throughout the first act, the crew is screaming louder than the weather of our office. (I, i, 1) The confusion of the elements contrasts the theme of reality, showing a state of disillusionment and disorder. These images of sound, along with the images of sleep and dreaming, gives a better understanding of the themes in the play.

Various images of sleep and dreams are also seen within The Tempest Probably the most famous would be Prosperos line We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep. (IV, i, 156-58) This line, as almost all of the sleep and dream images show how reality contrasts with illusion, such as a dream compared to everyday life. Another reference to sleep and dreams is when Ferdinand says My spirits, as in a dream, are all bound up.(I, ii, 484) Sebastian also has the line It is a sleepy language, and thou speakst/Out of thy sleep.(II, i, 05-06) All of these images pertaining to sleep have a strong thematic effect, which is to cause the reader to think of what is real and what isnt, or if even the events on stage are real, or if the world is just a stage.

Yet another thematic image created by Shakespeare is water. The lines that relate best to water imagery were said by Sebastian and Antonio, as they plot against Alonso. Sebastian is still uncertain whether he can do such a thing when he says Well, I am standing water. (II, i, 15) Antonio persuades him to help, and says Ill teach you how to flow.(II, i, 16) The water imagery relates to power and shows that when someone is brought into reality they are forced to want power and therefore, power corrupts. Antonios line shows us that he is truly the evil character and means to kill Alonso. The use of imagery in this situation helps to better understand Antonio and Sebastians characters.

The thematic images of sound, sleep, and dreaming all contrast with reality, illusion, magic, and dreams help to better understand the underlining messages that are shown throughout The Tempest. Shakespeare uses these images but interpreting them in such depth that it sounds complex at first. Yet It is this depth that it allows the reader to perceive these complex messages. Overall, the connection between image and theme is an important factor in understanding the play.

CAUSE AND EFFECT OF CAR MAINTENANCE

Car maintenance can be a hassle, but it can save you a lot of money in the long run. The car's manual is a great resource to follow in keeping up with its maintenance. The simple task of keeping up with the car's maintenance can save you the expense from having to go to a repair shop and having your car fixed because of neglect. The routine maintenance for a car is interior and exterior maintenance, engine maintenance, and tire maintenance. Depending how the person takes care of his or her car will affect the performance and life of the car.

When trying to keep the interior and exterior of a vehicle looking superior, the proper products are required. There are many products on the market that can be used to protect the interior and exterior of the car from harmful elements. Harmful elements include ultra violent rays and acid rain. These harmful elements cause leather to crack, the dashboard to fade, and paint to flake and chip off. A product, such as Armorall, can be used to protect leather from fading and cracking, and the dashboard from fading. Many people use polishes and waxes to protect paint on the car from fading and chipping due to the effects of the sun and acidic rain.

If a car's engine is consistently maintained, the car will last for many years. It is very important to change the oil in a car every three thousand miles or every three months (whichever comes first) because the oil serves to lubricate parts, keep the engine free of rust and deposits, seal the piston rings and valves against leakage of combustion gases, and cool hot internal surfaces. If the oil is not regularly changed, the engine will rust, there will be leakages in the piston rings and valves, and the parts will not last as long. Antifreeze needs to be checked to keep the engine from severe damage, such as overheating and corrosion to the engine. Antifreeze should be replaced occasionally since the antifreeze gradually degrades into a corrosive acid. When antifreeze turns acidic, the corrosive acid eats away at the engine's metal, like water pumps and radiators. The air filter needs to be checked frequently to make sure that your car's engine gets the proper fuel and air mixture ratio. If the engine's air filter is dirty, the engine's optimum power output is decreased.

Another key component to car maintenance is tire rotation and tire pressure. Tire rotation and maintaining the right tire pressure in each tire is important because it affects how many miles you get out of the tires, the miles per gallon, and your safety. Rotating the tires evens out the tread wear on all four tires since most wear is on the front tires. If tires are under-inflated, the vehicle has a softer ride and steers sloppily; also it causes an increase in fuel consumption. Under-inflated tires also wear out quicker and have a tendency to blow out easier, too. When the tires are over-inflated, the vehicle has a firmer ride and steers more responsively. When the tires are over-inflated, the vehicle has the risk of the tires busting and causing an accident.

If one likes his or her car, and wants to keep it around longer, do all the maintenance that needs to be done. Celebrity Babes and Beer

By Chad Damiani

Perv What a turn on! Fan I wonder how they feel inside?

Im enjoying a pint at Rudys when the topic of the fairer sex arises.

Yes, guys talking about women at a bar. Go figure.

The boys and I dont discuss our girlfriends, wives or the new sexy accountant at somebodys work - hell, we barely give lip service to the girl wearing hip-huggers and playing pool ten feet away. (Exposed thong - hot or whorish? Vote now.)

We talk about celebrities. Specifically, the Britneys, Christinas and Paris Hiltons of the world. The boys and I like them pretty, dim-witted? and only a few clicks past their eighteenth birthday.

Fan or Perv?

For those of you who cant tell the difference between perversion and fanaticism, check out these examples

PERVERT Did you see that hot kiss between Britney and Madonna?

FAN Hey, when Britney kissed Madonna, do you think Britney was wearing lip gloss from her new line of adolescent beauty products?

PERVERT Jennifer Love Hewitt has the most beautiful set Ive ever seen.

FAN Jennifer Love Hewitt has the most beautiful tea set Ive ever seen. According to CRIBS, she also collects Parisian finger bowls.

PERVERT LeAnn Rimes - what a body! I hope she poses nude to spite her parents.

FAN LeAnn Rimes - what a body of work! I hope she sings a duet with young up-and-comer Josh Brolin.

PERVERT Why doesnt Kaley Cuoco have a bikini calendar? Id love to have her hanging next to my bed.

FAN Why doesnt Kaley Cuoco have a tell-all autobiography? Id love to hear how she handled John Ritters death.

Dont get me wrong. Ive got mad respect for girls with a little more weather on the tread. Personally, Id kill to siesta with Salma (7, believe it or not) or work full-time as Demis post-workout thigh masseuse. And in reality-land, I also love brainy broads who can run with me during Double Jeopardy.

But I dont come to Rudys for reality. I come here for cheap beer, cheaper hot dogs and a jukebox that can play Otis Redding, Whitesnake and Fatboy Slim for a single buck. So quit judging and screw off.

These talks are always fun, but never lead to any good. First off, you start noticing how much brainpower youve dedicated to women you have no chance of polishing. I can recall glossy lips and scandalous dresses from ten years of Teen Choice Award shows with striking detail, but ask me what I got back on my taxes last year and nothing. Its embarrassing.

Then again, you cant daydream about stuff like your Visa pin number when youre stuck in gridlock. But Jessica Albas belly button? that single perfect image can get me through the Lincoln Tunnel and halfway down the New Jersey Turnpike. In rush hour. On Memorial Day weekend.

And then theres that buddy of yours who pisses on the whole conversation, because he doesnt know the difference between being a pervert and an actual fan. You know who Im talking about. The whole junkyard crew is raving about Shakiras ability to shake her ass like a paint mixer, when some buzzkill chimes in with I hear shes dating Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit or Did you know that she is having a feud with Italian Vogue? Ugh. Thanks for the celebrity dish, douche bag. Im glad to see that your subscription to Tiger Beat is finally paying off.

Look, like it or not, there are a few unspoken rules when it comes to drooling over younger girls. Talk of alleged nude pictures of Mandy Moore on the Internet. Good. Discussion of Avril Lavignes comments on vegetarianism. Very, very bad.

If youre still confused, just ask yourself this question before you utter a word Is what Im about to say something that would fascinate a 1 year-old girl? If the answer is yes, then shut up and drink. Otherwise, Im personally going to have to dig into you and expose your overgrown inner-Girl Scout to the group.

And trust me pal, she wont be the least bit pretty.

Please note that this sample paper on organizations is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. Anorexia is an illness. It is a form of eating disorder. People who suffer from anorexia lose significant weight by starving themselves, so much so that their weight falls way below ideal. Despite being underweight, sufferers still have the misconception of being fat, and some may even avoid mirrors and continue extreme dieting. This can be very dangerous as prolonged starvation can lead to death. Although there is no medication to treat this illness, the good news is, anorexic victims can be cured. It will take them a lot perseverance and determination, but it can be done. There is no one definitive method, but here are a few good ways to start.

One, overcoming the psychological barrier. Victims of anorexia first have to battle their minds. Victims who suffer from low-self esteem need to accept themselves as what they are. They need to learn to love their body and respect it. Understand the concept that health is wealth. Feeling guilt when they are eating is common amongst victims, the important thing to do here is to stop counting calories and starting to eat right. It is vital that victims of anorexia start regain their body weight as early as possible. Reading success stories of people who have recovered from eating disorders is of tremendous help too. This gives the anorexic person greater confidence that they can recover, and acts as a motivation along the way.

Two, accept support from family members and friends. Most anorexic victims are unwilling to admit that they are ill. They try to hide their eating and weight problems from the people around them. When victims have made up mind to recover, it will be wise for them to open up to their family and close friends. Confess their illness and the reasons behind it. Friends and family members can often be a good listening ear and provide more sensible and rational advise. Talking or listening to the patient when they need to share their feelings will take away some of the pressure from them. Provide encouragement and help them cope with life positively. Loved ones showing care and concern can be very touching for the patients too. Let them know that they are not alone in this fight. Also, family members can help the patient develop healthy eating habits and gentle reminders to stick to their meal times and food portion.

Last but not least, seek professional help. Anorexia is an illness, so there is nothing wrong with seeing a doctor to recover from it. Anorexic victims should not be reluctant to see a doctor about their problem. They should learn to trust the professionals and their advice. There are various specialists who can offer help in the different areas. A family doctor can first diagnose the severity of the victim's condition and give good referrals to the right specialists. A nutritionist can help plan a diet tailored to the patient's body weight and current body condition. They can also teach the patient proper eating habits and how to stick to a healthy diet. With the help of a nutritionist, the patient will also be sure to get the all right vitamins and minerals that the body was deprived of. Another specialist to visit will be a therapist. There are many types of therapy programs available, younger victims of anorexia may prefer to have counseling session with their parents around, whilst other victims may prefer a one-to-one session. Group therapy is also available, for victims who would like to meet other sufferers of anorexia like themselves. Seeing a therapist can give a boost to the whole recovery process. By being completely honest to the therapist, patients can discover the root to their problem. And having understood the reason to the illness, both therapist and patient can then deal with it more effectively.

Detailed method -

I set up the circuit as shown in the diagram that I have drawn. I started the experiment by taping a meter ruler between the terminal blocks P, Q so that I could measure 100cm of nichrome wire. I made sure that the wire was carefully tightened at both terminals to try to minimise the kinks or twists in the wire. I then switched on the power pack supply and adjusted the variable resistor until a constant current of 0.A was

flowing through the circuit. I then recorded the corresponding voltage reading that was displayed on the digital voltmeter. I repeated this procedure using different lengths ranging from 0-100cm and adjusting the variable resistor until 0.A was flowing through the circuit. After recording the corresponding voltage readings for each length and tabulating them I decided to repeat the whole experiment again another times so that I could take the average voltmeter reading for each length. Using a micrometer screw-gauge I measured the diameter of the wire at different positions along the wire and then calculated its average diameter from the values. I then plotted a graph of the length of the wire against average resistance and used it to calculate the resistivity of nichrome as mentioned in my plan where the average resistance can be calculated using the relation??? R=??V .

Variables in the experiment -

In this experiment I varied the length of the wire each time using a range of lengths from 0-100cm.

I kept the current flowing through the circuit constant using a variable resistor which I kept varying for each length of wire so that the ammeter would always read 0. A. I then recorded the voltage readings from the voltmeter which corresponded to the length of the wire being used.

The temperature of the wires in the circuit needed to be kept constant to prevent the whole circuit from overheating. I managed to do this by quickly switching off the power pack supply every time I had recorded my set of readings. I then left the power pack to rest for a small interval of time before switching it on again to record the next set of readings.

I also kept the diameter of the wire constant by using the same piece of wire throughout the whole experiment.

Factors

1.Temperature If the wire is heated up the atoms in the wire will start to vibrate because of their

increase in energy. This causes more collisions between the electrons and the atoms as

the atoms are moving into the path of the electrons. This increase in collisions means that

there will be an increase in resistance.

.Material The type of material will affect the amount of free electrons which are able to flow through

the wire. The number of electrons depends on the amount of electrons in the outer energy

shell of the atoms , so if there are more or larger atoms then there must be more electrons

available. If the material has a high number of atoms there will be high number of electrons

causing a lower resistance because of the increase in the number of electrons. Also if the

atoms in the material are closely packed then the electrons will have more frequent collisions

and the resistance will increase.

.Wire length If the length of the wire is increased then the resistance will also increase as the

electrons will have a longer distance to travel and so more collisions will occur. Due to this

the length increase should be proportional to the resistance increase.

4.Wire width If the wires width is increased the resistance will decrease. This is because of the

increase in the space for the electrons to travel through. Due to this increased space between

the atoms there should be less collisions.

The leader of a country molds the character and personality of which we rules. He stands for the people and controls all affairs pertaining to the rights constituted to each citizen. The ruler could also wear many faces. Totalitarian leaders restricted all phases of public and personal life. Censorship was popular among these leaders. Leaders such as Joseph Stalin, Benito Mussolini, and Adolf Hitler practiced these tasks and produced a country so powerful and strong it altered history.

Joseph Stalin, the autocratic ruler who more than any other molded the features that characterized the USSR regime and shaped the direction of Europe after World War II ended in 145. In the late 10s Stalin decided the New Economic Policy, which Lenin had introduced to aid postwar economic recovery, no longer worked. Economic growth was declining and peasants were not producing enough product to please demands. Stalin chose a policy that forced them into state-owned collective farms. He pressed forward with a program of rapid industrialization, which began with the ambitious Five-Year Plan in 18. Stalin believed the Soviet Union had to industrialize rapidly in order to strengthen the Communist government. The plan, which was supported by utilizing resources in the countryside, resulted in the near collapse of Soviet agriculture and the deaths of millions of peasants from famine. Industrialization was achieved, but at great cost.

Mussolini and other young war veterans founded the Fasci di Combattimento in March 11. This nationalistic and antisocialist movement attracted lower middle-class support. Growing rapidly after mid-10, fascism spread uncontrollably, where its black-shirt militia won support from landowners and attacked peasant leagues and socialist groups. Fascism shed its initial republicanism, winning understanding from the army and the king. Adopting an aggressive foreign policy, Mussolini disobeyed the League of Nations and conquered Ethiopia. This won him praise in almost every region of the general public. Il Duces popularity declined after he sent troops to help General Francisco Franco in the Spanish Civil War and associated Italy to Nazi Germany furthermore enacted anti-Jewish laws, and invaded Albania.

Adolf Hitler was a German political and military leader and one of the most powerful dictators known today. Hitler converted Germany into a fully militarized society and instigated World War II in 1. He made anti-Semitism a source of his propaganda and policies and built the Nazi Party into a mass movement. He hoped to conquer the entire world, and for a time dominated most of Europe and much of North Africa. He instituted sterilization measures to impose his idea of racial purity among German people and caused the slaughter of millions of Jews, Slavic peoples, and many others, all of whom he considered inferior. Hitler in addition supported censorship. Censorship is the supervision and control of the information and ideas that are common among the people within a society. Censorship refers to the examination of books, plays, television and radio programs, and other communication media for the purpose of altering or suppressing parts thought to be objectionable or offensive. The objectionable material may be considered a threat to the national security.

With many forms each leader affected his nation. Joseph Stalin's policies transformed USSR into an industrialized nation with a powerful military arsenal, sadly at the cost of many lives. Emmanuel disrobed Mussolini and in hope to escape from Switzerland, Italian partisans captured and shot him. In view of their countrys wartime disasters, few Italians regretted the overthrow of the Fascist regime and the death of its Il Duce. Hitler left Germany in ruins and most of Europe too. The German people discovered for the first time the extent to which modern warfare could destroy a country.
