"Nothing endures but change" as Heraclitus once said. It seems to be the only thing that is constant in our lives and is invariably difficult to deal with. Gwen Harwood's poems reflect her ideas concerning change that often leads to greater perception on the part of an individual, which in turn leads an improved management of change. Three such poems are "In the park", "Father and Child" and "Prize giving". Notions of change are also evident in the Biblical reference of Adam and the fall, and the Film "My fair lady" directed by George Cukor. Change is also represented through text five of the stimulus booklet, which is a print screen visual from an interactive encyclopaedia program defining Fractals. These composers of text represent change by showing its effects on people through the passing of time and pivotal events, which occur in our lives.

Change is apparent in the sonnet "In the park" by Gwen Harwood, as we encounter a young woman with several squabbling children sitting in the park. The fact that her "clothes are out of date" and she has Two children [that] whine, bicker [and] tug her skirt" somewhat acquaint us to the stereotypical traumatic single mother, whose good fortune has long expired. This Notion gains addition through the line "Some one she loved-once passes by too late". The middle paragraph uses clichs such as "how nice" and "time holds great surprises" to show the superficial relationship that the persona holds with her former lover and uses contrasting imagery such as "His neat head", against the perceived ragged mother. The undesirable image of the woman is confirmed through his thoughts "but for the grace of God" and Ironic tone is later used "It's so sweet to hear their chatter". Clearly, his perception of the woman has changed over time, particularly in regard to her children. She now has no-one to share her sympathies with except for "the wind", to whom she says "they have eaten me alive" in a metaphorical tone. This event also imposes a profound change in the mind-set of the woman - the outlook of regret.

The change in self-perspective from contentment to regret is evident also, in the biblical text of Adam and the Garden of Eden. In the book of Genesis we are told that after they ate the forbidden fruit, God approached Adam who replied "I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself." This symbolizes Adam's shame and regret. Regret is also portrayed later, when Adam receives punishment for his disobedience. Another evident change, which takes place in this text, is the loss of innocence. The connotation of perfection is denoted through repetition of the phrase "God saw that it was good". But ensuing Adam's insubordination, "God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken". This is often referred to as the "fall" as it indicates a change in nature and a loss of innocence.

Similarly the first canto from Gwen Harwood's poem Father and Child also indicates a change in nature and a fall from grace. The juxtaposition of biblical allusions such as "horny fiend" and "angel mild" helps symbolize loss of innocence of the child. Stark and contrasting imagery such as "A lonely child who believed death clean and final, not this obscene bundle of stuff that dropped and dribbled" helps represent the contrast between innocence and condemnation. A remorseful change occurs "I leaned my head upon my father's arm, and wept" which is indicative of a change in heart, and gained experience. With the assistance of hindsight, the second canto continues on forty years with a reflective tone. The father and child reminisce about the past and the changes that have occurred. "The child once quick to mischief, grown to learn what sorrows, in the end, no words, no tears can mend".

Similarly the stimulus text 5 Fractals, symbolizes how change in time has caused a change in context, particularly in the world of knowledge. Fractals are a new field of mathematical discovery, which reflect change as they are multifarious and demonstrate infinite complexity as does change. Paradoxically they give us a sense of consistency in a changing world, which is reflective of the principle human self-nature, which has remained constant. The text is of a multimedia format, which represents progression in the communication industry and is indicative of how fast our world is undergoing technological transformation. Clear Layouts, bright colours, fonts and graphics capture the audiences' attention and utilize sight, sound and computer technology. The use of such technology was unknown mere decades ago, which clearly represents the change in the new generations' sense identity.

A comparable change in one's sense of identity is portrayed through Gwen Harwood's poem Prize-Giving. In this enjambment, an arrogant professor attends a girls school speech night as an honored guest, only to have his sense of identity challenged by his desire for a cheeky young schoolgirl. Contrast such as "superb in silk and fur with pride" juxtaposed against "humbler black" and emotive language such as "to grace their humble platform" and "tortured to form the schools elaborate crest" are used to portray the professor as aristocratic. The use of similes including "Rodin's Thinker" which symbolizes intelligence and honor also enhances this perspective. Through these techniques, the omniscient narrator contrasts the professor against a sassy young girl, whose "hand bent under her chin in mockery of his own". When she collected her prize and shook his hand, he " felt its voltage fling his hold from his calm age and power". He is a "sage fool trapped" by this voltage of desire, which undermines his own sense of identity. It is evident that inward change has occurred as this apparently refined professor "teased his gown while others clapped". Finally as he peers into a trophy, his image is suspended upside down which is metaphoric of his world being turned upside down.

In the movie My fair Lady, directed by George Cukor, Eliza's world is turned upside down, as her sense of identity changes. Eliza is part of an inferior class of society who is strictly limited by her inadequate street slang. "Look at her, a prisoner of the gutters Condemned by every syllable she utters" sings Henry Higgins, a professor of speech. Song is used here to lock a feeble impression of Eliza inside the audiences mind. The use of emotive language aided by the visual component of video helps to portray the character of Eliza. Due to his friend, Colonel Pickering and his challenge to transform this "draggle-tailed guttersnipe" into a duchess, the professor vows, "Ill make a queen of that barbarous wretch. Predictably, the professor takes Eliza in and teaches her superior English and etiquette, and they begin to fall in love and Eliza's life becomes transformed. But the professor believes that if you "let a woman in your life and your serenity is through" and treats her with much contempt. As her speech matures, so does her character and she realizes that she has been well bred for appearing in high society, but is not assured of her place in that world, yet she has also become distant from her world among the gutter-dwellers. When asked why she is upset, she replies, "The difference between a lady and a flower girl is not how she behaves, but how she is treated. Change is evident not only in the transformation of Eliza's character, but the development of her maturity. This causes remorse in the professor and a change in heart towards her.

As Leo Tolstoy said "Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself. Changes such as regret, loss of innocence, changes in maturity, identity and character all reflect a change in self, as they are all external manifestations of an internal change.

Anorexia is an illness. It is a form of eating disorder. People who suffer from anorexia lose significant weight by starving themselves, so much so that their weight falls way below ideal. Despite being underweight, sufferers still have the misconception of being fat, and some may even avoid mirrors and continue extreme dieting. This can be very dangerous as prolonged starvation can lead to death. Although there is no medication to treat this illness, the good news is, anorexic victims can be cured. It will take them a lot perseverance and determination, but it can be done. There is no one definitive method, but here are a few good ways to start.

One, overcoming the psychological barrier. Victims of anorexia first have to battle their minds. Victims who suffer from low-self esteem need to accept themselves as what they are. They need to learn to love their body and respect it. Understand the concept that health is wealth. Feeling guilt when they are eating is common amongst victims, the important thing to do here is to stop counting calories and starting to eat right. It is vital that victims of anorexia start regain their body weight as early as possible. Reading success stories of people who have recovered from eating disorders is of tremendous help too. This gives the anorexic person greater confidence that they can recover, and acts as a motivation along the way.

Two, accept support from family members and friends. Most anorexic victims are unwilling to admit that they are ill. They try to hide their eating and weight problems from the people around them. When victims have made up mind to recover, it will be wise for them to open up to their family and close friends. Confess their illness and the reasons behind it. Friends and family members can often be a good listening ear and provide more sensible and rational advise. Talking or listening to the patient when they need to share their feelings will take away some of the pressure from them. Provide encouragement and help them cope with life positively. Loved ones showing care and concern can be very touching for the patients too. Let them know that they are not alone in this fight. Also, family members can help the patient develop healthy eating habits and gentle reminders to stick to their meal times and food portion.

Last but not least, seek professional help. Anorexia is an illness, so there is nothing wrong with seeing a doctor to recover from it. Anorexic victims should not be reluctant to see a doctor about their problem. They should learn to trust the professionals and their advice. There are various specialists who can offer help in the different areas. A family doctor can first diagnose the severity of the victim's condition and give good referrals to the right specialists. A nutritionist can help plan a diet tailored to the patient's body weight and current body condition. They can also teach the patient proper eating habits and how to stick to a healthy diet. With the help of a nutritionist, the patient will also be sure to get the all right vitamins and minerals that the body was deprived of. Another specialist to visit will be a therapist. There are many types of therapy programs available, younger victims of anorexia may prefer to have counseling session with their parents around, whilst other victims may prefer a one-to-one session. Group therapy is also available, for victims who would like to meet other sufferers of anorexia like themselves. Seeing a therapist can give a boost to the whole recovery process. By being completely honest to the therapist, patients can discover the root to their problem. And having understood the reason to the illness, both therapist and patient can then deal with it more effectively.

People have been misinformed about race for many years and many different reasons. Race can be a difficult subject for people to talk about. Race sometimes is used by people for their own self gain. I believe that race is a way of surpassing different ethnic groups. Race can be defined by the color of ones skin, behavior, language, and culture. At times race can be an advantage and at other time race can be a disadvantage. Race is simply the group or classification that an individual chooses to belong. To me there is only one race and that is the human race. But we choose to separate ourselves by ethnic groups and divide into groups of race by ethnicity such as Indians, African Americans, Caucasians, Hispanics, etc. We make choice of the race in which we choose to belong according to the color of our skin, hair texture, place of birth, etc. Some of the ways that I have gathered my definition of race is through my community, my family, my church, the schools I have attended and television.

Growing up in a my community, lead me to believe that I was in a black community. My next door neighbor was black, the store owner was black, auto repairman was black, etc.

Another way that I have come to define the definition of race is through my family. All of my family members are black. My family taught me that I was black and should be proud of that fact.

Two other sources that educated me on race is church and school. The church that I attended had all black members. The pastor was black, the choir was black, deacons and nurses were black. When I visited other churches in the community it was the same way. I went to a black school in the community where the student body was black but the teachers were mostly white.

Another source that educated me on race was the television. Television depicts various events and often attempts to show each race in various different ways. On television the black race is mostly depicted as robbers, gangsters and living in slum areas. Television often depicts the young black race as drug dealers and gang members. Television rarely or very seldom shows or tells the race of an individual when the race is non-black.

Detailed method -

I set up the circuit as shown in the diagram that I have drawn. I started the experiment by taping a meter ruler between the terminal blocks P, Q so that I could measure 100cm of nichrome wire. I made sure that the wire was carefully tightened at both terminals to try to minimise the kinks or twists in the wire. I then switched on the power pack supply and adjusted the variable resistor until a constant current of 0.A was

flowing through the circuit. I then recorded the corresponding voltage reading that was displayed on the digital voltmeter. I repeated this procedure using different lengths ranging from 0-100cm and adjusting the variable resistor until 0.A was flowing through the circuit. After recording the corresponding voltage readings for each length and tabulating them I decided to repeat the whole experiment again another times so that I could take the average voltmeter reading for each length. Using a micrometer screw-gauge I measured the diameter of the wire at different positions along the wire and then calculated its average diameter from the values. I then plotted a graph of the length of the wire against average resistance and used it to calculate the resistivity of nichrome as mentioned in my plan where the average resistance can be calculated using the relation??? R=??V .

I

Order College Papers on Physics Resistance of wires

Variables in the experiment -

In this experiment I varied the length of the wire each time using a range of lengths from 0-100cm.

I kept the current flowing through the circuit constant using a variable resistor which I kept varying for each length of wire so that the ammeter would always read 0. A. I then recorded the voltage readings from the voltmeter which corresponded to the length of the wire being used.

The temperature of the wires in the circuit needed to be kept constant to prevent the whole circuit from overheating. I managed to do this by quickly switching off the power pack supply every time I had recorded my set of readings. I then left the power pack to rest for a small interval of time before switching it on again to record the next set of readings.

I also kept the diameter of the wire constant by using the same piece of wire throughout the whole experiment.

Factors

1.Temperature If the wire is heated up the atoms in the wire will start to vibrate because of their

increase in energy. This causes more collisions between the electrons and the atoms as

the atoms are moving into the path of the electrons. This increase in collisions means that

there will be an increase in resistance.

.Material The type of material will affect the amount of free electrons which are able to flow through

the wire. The number of electrons depends on the amount of electrons in the outer energy

shell of the atoms , so if there are more or larger atoms then there must be more electrons

available. If the material has a high number of atoms there will be high number of electrons

causing a lower resistance because of the increase in the number of electrons. Also if the

atoms in the material are closely packed then the electrons will have more frequent collisions

and the resistance will increase.

.Wire length If the length of the wire is increased then the resistance will also increase as the

electrons will have a longer distance to travel and so more collisions will occur. Due to this

the length increase should be proportional to the resistance increase.

4.Wire width If the wires width is increased the resistance will decrease. This is because of the

increase in the space for the electrons to travel through. Due to this increased space between

the atoms there should be less collisions.

Please note that this sample paper on Physics Resistance of wires is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Physics Resistance of wires, we are here to assist you. Task. Business Activities

Now that both each of the businesses ownerships have been identified and the industrial and business sectors have been explained, it is time to move on to explain how each of the businesses have main activities, how they are carried out and how the two businesses operate.

Pegasus Cycles

The aims and objectives of the private limited company Pegasus Cycles is too produce high quality bicycles. This means making bicycles that suit the needs of the customers, only top quality materials should be used to maintain there high quality standards. As well as keeping there, high quality standards, Pegasus Cycles needs to keep pushing there designs so that the public will want to buy Pegasus products.

The way in which Pegasus makes there bicycles is as follows a bicycle frame is made from different tubes, these tubes are then welded together to form the frame structure. The bicycle frames are made from one of four different materials.

Aluminium - this material is used because it is lightweight, the downside to this particular material is that it is quite brittle. This can be overcome by making the tubes larger and making sure the welding is thicker, this lessens the chance of the frame breaking.

Steel many of the bicycle frames are made from this, which is because steel makes the bicycle highly resistant in a crash and it is the cheapest of the materials on offer for making bicycle frame.

The best of the materials is Titanium, but as well as being the best, it is also the most expensive. Titanium is lightweight but strong, this makes it the perfect choice for a good bicycle. Another material that is like Titanium that is used, is Carbon Fibre. These two materials are very expensive and the retail price for them will be quite high, only the more wealthy customers or professional racers will be buying these expensive type frames.

When the bicycle frame has been made to the desired design, the next step would be to find a good set of wheels, a seat and a seat post, some handlebars and stem, the cranks and pedals, the brakes and the chain and gears. Pegasus has to make sure that the bikes are made for a specific group. So general bikes will be made from steel and have the basic 10-speed gears where a modern mountain bike would be made from titanium and have as many gears as 4.

All of the bikes have to be up to the standard, if the customers are not happy with a product brought then they will look elsewhere in future.

Before the construction of each of the bikes that are to be made, a careful examination of each of the tubes has to be made. Any of the tubes that falls under the expected standard is taken and sent back to the supplier, but Pegasus select there suppliers carefully, so that all materials brought are of excellent quality. After being checked thoroughly the tubes are then welded together by a team of skilled craftsmen. After this, the frame is checked to make sure the alignment is perfect and the craftsmen ship is up to scratch. The frame is now put through a process called 'heat treating' and then coated so that it is resistant to all types of weather, each of the frames are painted using a electrostatic powder process. When the frame is totally finished and perfect, the wheels and all other components such as the breaks and gears are fitted and aligned by hand.

After the bicycle is made, everything is working fine and everything is up to the high quality standard the bicycle will then be ready to sell.

Pegasus Cycles started making bicycles that were cheap and easy to manufacture, over the years Pegasus Cycles has moved on, it is now making advanced structured bicycles.

Phil Spence considers the 'mass market' out of reach. Therefore, he finds that expanding the company over seas would not really benefit them much. There are many competitors over seas and in the UK he would have to compete with and with the cost of shipping bikes over, profit wouldn't be made and it could become to much and the company would start losing money. Regionally is the way best suited to Pegasus Cycles. Although Phil Spence does think that, it could be worth selling small components and spare parts over the internet. This would be the only way of selling nationally that he would be interested.

The trends in Pegasus Cycles are that staff are slowly leaving the workforce and either moving on to higher education, better jobs or moving into the ever-expanding Tertiary sector. You can see on the table in Task. the fall of primary and secondary employment and the massive expansion of the Tertiary sector.

People need specifically designed bicycles; Pegasus Cycles meets the needs of the public. People always want better products, everything needs to be upgrade and within fashion, it is Pegasus job to comply with the publics, general needs.

Tom Greenways

Greenways Estate Agents main aims and objectives is to provide top quality houses to the community, especially the students that study within the surrounding area. The estate agents need to make sure they have enough knowledge to sell houses effectively.

The quality of the houses Greenways has to offer the public, need to be of high quality, this is because they want the best possible public interest. The business would not survive offering houses that nobody wanted. If the houses are not of a good quality then customers will go elsewhere to buy a house.

Performance appraisal is defined as the periodic and regular evaluation of an employees ability to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities (Websters). Performance appraisal is also the process of identifying, measuring and developing human performance within an organization. In other words, the employees perfromance appraisal allows employers to identify, evaluate an individuals performance on a regular basis. It is also a tool to encourage strong performers to maintain their high level of performance and to motivate poor performers to make impovements.

Performance appraisals are a fact of organizational life. As an employee, performance appraisal will play a significant role in my career development. As a supervisor, its important to remember that most employees want accurate information on how they are doing and what they need to improve upon. In retrospect, each oranization will of course have different policies and procedures in regards to employee performance and systematic standards. In summary, I thought it would be rather interesting to cite the difference between profit and non-profit organizations and performance appraisal/evaluation standards.

Despite all the literature, training and advice on accurate appraisals, giving accurate appraisals may not be th eprimary concern of managers and dircetors. Of more interest seems to be how to use the appraisal to help motivate or reward employees. Performance appraisalods are often overlooked or handled improperly. Although this is a managerial repsonsibility, it requires employee recognition and acceptance to be effective in the long run. Nonetheless, it is audacious of supervisors to think they know what is best for employees and expect them to conform. Employee development and taining needs should be routinely identified and discussed during the performance appraisal process. This would result in a mutual understanding of what is needed to maximize future work performance by correcting bad work behavior and improving good performance.

The leader of a country molds the character and personality of which we rules. He stands for the people and controls all affairs pertaining to the rights constituted to each citizen. The ruler could also wear many faces. Totalitarian leaders restricted all phases of public and personal life. Censorship was popular among these leaders. Leaders such as Joseph Stalin, Benito Mussolini, and Adolf Hitler practiced these tasks and produced a country so powerful and strong it altered history.

Joseph Stalin, the autocratic ruler who more than any other molded the features that characterized the USSR regime and shaped the direction of Europe after World War II ended in 145. In the late 10s Stalin decided the New Economic Policy, which Lenin had introduced to aid postwar economic recovery, no longer worked. Economic growth was declining and peasants were not producing enough product to please demands. Stalin chose a policy that forced them into state-owned collective farms. He pressed forward with a program of rapid industrialization, which began with the ambitious Five-Year Plan in 18. Stalin believed the Soviet Union had to industrialize rapidly in order to strengthen the Communist government. The plan, which was supported by utilizing resources in the countryside, resulted in the near collapse of Soviet agriculture and the deaths of millions of peasants from famine. Industrialization was achieved, but at great cost.

Mussolini and other young war veterans founded the Fasci di Combattimento in March 11. This nationalistic and antisocialist movement attracted lower middle-class support. Growing rapidly after mid-10, fascism spread uncontrollably, where its black-shirt militia won support from landowners and attacked peasant leagues and socialist groups. Fascism shed its initial republicanism, winning understanding from the army and the king. Adopting an aggressive foreign policy, Mussolini disobeyed the League of Nations and conquered Ethiopia. This won him praise in almost every region of the general public. Il Duces popularity declined after he sent troops to help General Francisco Franco in the Spanish Civil War and associated Italy to Nazi Germany furthermore enacted anti-Jewish laws, and invaded Albania.

Adolf Hitler was a German political and military leader and one of the most powerful dictators known today. Hitler converted Germany into a fully militarized society and instigated World War II in 1.
