They say, "When you are no longer a child, you should put down childish things." Well, whoever said that never enjoyed playing with their food as a kid. Except now we bring vertically stacked food or fried rosemary sprigs stuffed in roasted garlic smashers to the table during valentines, prom, and every other night of the year. When you have had a culinary passion as long as I myself, one might say you have "The Calling".

A desire to learn new techniques, hone my existing skills, and assess my abilities brought me to Western Culinary Institute. After completion of WCI's Le Cordon Bleu Program I plan to continue my education through working and learning under premier chefs and industry professionals. Opening a restaurant where I can provide the customer with the highest quality ingredients using scratch methods of cookery would be an ultimate goal. Dedication has brought this childhood passion to the forefront of my life and before you now. I possess the soul of a chef and wish to bring people delight in their culinary experiences and turning them on to new and old flavors they may not have a familiarity with.

Participation in S. Pelligrino's "Almost Famous Chef" training and competition will help me focus on immediate and long-term goals as well as improve my contacts and relations within the culinary field, so with my creativity , and experience I believe I am the prime choice for WCI.

"Lake Creek A Woodland Site

in the Texas Panhandle"

by Jack T. Hughes

Jack Hughes wrote this journal to report the results of some initial investigations of an Indian campsite with probable Woodland affiliations in the Panhandle of Texas. Hughes reports this to help the reader better understand the existence and both lifestyles and habits of the Indians in this area. The site is located on the J.Evetts Haley Ranch in the eastern part of Hutchinson County in Texas. It is situated on the west bank of Lake Creek, which empties into the South Canadian River about 4 miles southeast of the site. For a better understanding of the background of the area, Hughes stated that this stretch in the Canadian Valley was a favorite wintering ground of the Comanche and their allies. Nearby, in a creek valley three miles east of Lake Creek are the remains of a fort built in 1840 by William Bent for trade with the Comanche.

As the excavation of the site progressed, it was noted that the first foot dug consisted of a brownish humic sand which turned yellowish towards the bottom. At this depth, some flint chip specimens were found which indicated that more was to come as the archaeologists dug deeper. They were right, as many artifacts were found, with 1 in all. The artifacts that were found consisted of projectile points, knives, scrapers, gravers, blades, choppers, chopper-hammers, cores, manos, grinding slabs, bone beads and animal remains. The existence of these particular artifacts suggests that the Indians of the time were both hunters and gatherers. The projectile points and knives were undoubtedly used for hunting and skinning purposes, as the grinding slabs and scrapers were probably used for crops and other food preparatory purposes. Most of the objects were composed of Alibates flint, which is a common stone of the area. This suggests that the Indians weren't as nomadic as other tribes.

Among these previously mentioned artifacts, pottery was also excavated at the site. The Lake Creek site produced about forty-eight sherds of two very different kinds of pottery, which may be characterized as corded ware and plain ware. Hughes entered this into the article to once again better get an idea of the way of life of the people. Pottery found also indicates that the tribe didn't relocate very often, as artifacts of this nature would have taken much time to produce.

Hughes puts such artifacts, as the knives and points into categories. There are three categories for the knives; beveled, plain and flake. Hughes describes a beveled knife as being a small tip fragment of a narrow-pointed, straight-edged knife. A plain knife is described as being a simple knife, with no bevels whatsoever. Many specimens of this type were found. The flake knife is a knife with bi-facially retouched edges. Near all of these were found to be comprised of Alibates flint. Hughes put this information about the differences in knives to help readers understand both the sophistication and technological advances of this Indian tribe. It is not clear whether or not the tribe invented the different knife varieties or if they were adopted, however, the artifacts were found fairly shallowly in the ground, suggesting a more recent tribe, which indicates a later existence in the area.

Hughes concludes the article with comments about the site, such as the suggestion that the Lake Creek Focus represents a group residing in the region, rather than passing through it. My conjecture about this was also verified when he mentioned that the traits found about the Indians gave further evidence of residences, such as the pottery and trading evidence. I think that Hughes did a very good job writing the article, supplying the reader with extensive details about the dig, which helps the reader visualize the excavation.

Association, break his favorite bat. Hillerich took Browning to the shop and turned out a bat, and next day Browning went three-for-three with it.

The growth of wooden bats only grew from the first bat ever made to where now Louisville Slugger, a bat manufacturing company out of Louisville, Kentucky, makes approximetly one million bats a year. The first wooden bats were long and heavy and many players had to adjust to the techniques .Although through the years many companies have created their own wooden bat and sold it from the factories, Louisville Slugger was the first company to distribute and manufacture bats to the public, and are well known for their bats durability and quality. Most of the bats that are manufactured are primarily made northern white ash. The best timber comes from parts of Pennsylvania, New York and other northeastern states where the terrain and climate are most favorable to its growth. Hillerich & Bradsby Co. owns some forests in that area. Some of the Major League players request bats made of maple, which is stronger than white ash, but also heavier. In the past, hickory was also a popular wood for bats, but it is too heavy for most of today's players to use.

The first wooden bats were long and heavy and many players had to adjust to the techniques Although through the years many companies have created their own wooden bat and sold it from the factories, Louisville Slugger was the first company to distribute and manufacture bats to the public, and are well known for their bats durability and quality.

As years go by the technologies that are used in creating the wooden bat may change but the evolution and history of the bats will always be the blueprint of what all of the bats are made after.

Although wood baseball bats are still required in the minors and major leagues, high-tech bats are being used by youth, high school and college teams across America and around the world. During the 180's, aluminum bats made their first appearance and became very popular for several reasons. In the early years of the aluminum bat people often thought that they would automatically increase the distance they could hit a baseball or softball or even that the bat would help you have better techniques and become a more 'professional' hitter. Mainly people wanted to try these bats out for the supposed increase in power. Many players have been put in the position of possibly switching from the wooden bats that have been around for centuries to the new aluminum bat. When looked at the aluminum bats match up with the wood bats but have qualities that a wooden bat will never have. Aluminum bats are completely stronger than wooden bats consisting of metals woven together to create the 'ping' sound metal bats are known for. Players in the northern states are the best examples to attest to the fact that hitting with a wooden bat in cold weather for the first time will teach a player to purchase a pair of batting gloves.

. Second, hitting a ball below the barrel of an aluminum bat did not sting as bad as a wooden bat. And another reason why people switched to aluminum bats when they came out was because they could produce bigger hits, which is what every batter is looking for. The reason why professional teams did not switch to aluminum bats was because they would make the relative distance to the fences a lot shorter. Yes, batting statistics would better than ever, but then teams would have to go and build new stadiums to make to game more challenging."

The technology put into baseball bats is constantly changing, and in order to keep up with this technology the bat producers have to raise the prices of the bats to pay for the materials needed to make them stronger. Many people argued that these bats are not breakable but when tested under the right conditions, researchers have discovered that there in certain temperatures these bats can be vulnerable to break. Professional baseball players are the only ones that cannot

As President of the United States, I would like to propose a government sponsored, national system health care. With that, would like to model this system in the fashion of European and most other world countries, which would call for its financing through a twenty percent tax. With this proposal, everyone will be cared for in accordance to their needs, however the quality of health care will be equal in all cases. And with all the money saved from not having to spend it on insurance, can be put toward good use, thus benefiting the economy as a whole.

A UTE would respond o this by first looking at what the consequences are if he decides to vote in favor of my proposal, and if those consequences would benefit the majority of people. He would then most likely vote it down since it isn't beneficial to the greater number of people. The rich and the middle class would be hit hard with the maximum amount of taxes. And ordinary, the people of these socioeconomic classes would be able afford medical insurance on their own without this policy. So on the whole, the only people who this proposal would benefit would be the poor, who in this case are the minority. So if this policy's consequences don't increase the pleasure of the minority, it isn't in the best interest of the Utilitarian vote.

On the other hand, Rawls would see that the proposal for national health care greatly coincides with his feeling against the genetic and social lottery, which gives people unfair advantage. The poor would be able to receive as good health as the rich, thus leveling the field for all socioeconomic classes and no longer taking into account if the people are rich, poor or somewhat in between. With this policy everyone will experience equal opportunity, which would be well liked by Rawls, since everyone would be allowed to have access to health care, and the worst off will be taken care of in consideration to the Difference Principle.

Robert Nozik's entitlement, would say that the rich and the middle class who can afford their own health care are entitled to have better quality for what they pay. While the poor people who can't afford decent health care are only entitled to mediocre coverage. It isn't the fault of the rich and middle class that they are where they are economically, so they shouldn't be penalized. Thus, Nozick would vote down the proposal.

Write my Essay on Utilitarian, right-based person, John Rawls, and Robert Nozick for me

A rights-based person would say that as humans, we have unalienable rights. Among them exists the right to maintain good health. Therefore, people should not be denied equal health coverage due to their economic class. Whether they are poor, rich or in the middle people deserve the right to live a happy and health life. So if that calls for equal health coverage, twenty percent tax isn't a large loss.

The theory, which supports my proposal, comes form John Rawls who says that people regardless of their social status shouldn't be given any kind of advantage for their luck. This applies to proposal. As the president, I wrote this with the intention of narrowing the gap of economic classes, since luck should never be a factor played into whether someone would be ale to live a healthy life or not. Even though there is the rich, and middle class who can afford decent medical treatment, why should people who age endowed with certain unalienable rights be stripped of them, simply because they can't afford it? My answer is that the poor shouldn't be deprived of any rights and my proposal intends to change and give equal medical care to all.

You are saying to yourself, a subject covered countless times, and in most cases you'd be right, but my stand is unlike the common. The question I pose to you in the confines of this one composition is not the ethical validity of the act of suicide, but rather if it is ethical or not to hate the one who committed the act, even if you loved and respected this person above anyone else? Is it fair to hold a small seed of hate for the one who left you in a lurch even if you know their reasons for doing so? On the one hand the person is out of pain, on the other your world is turned upside down and you're full of resentment. In the end I suppose it is up to each of us to determine for ourselves but here is my spin on it.

Ever since, I dare say the day I was born, my father was my hero. There seemed to be nothing he couldn't do, whether it was something as simple as putting together a wagon, or as serious as going down to my school and excusing every senior absence so I could graduate. I could always count on my dad, come hell or high water, rain or shine, there wasn't any problem we couldn't handle together. We were the two musketeers without need of a third, best friends, with a father-son show of respect when needed. Only trouble was, like so many heroes my dad developed what would become a fatal flaw. In 10 he got in a bad work related accident, and ruptured five discs in his back. The surgery he under went, which welded his spine together where the discs had been, left him in chronic back pain. He put up with that pain for twelve long years, it and the inability to stand, sit, or even work for any length of time without laying down, were what eventually drove my father to end his life.

To me, that man was unstoppable, almost as if he had the power to bend the world to his will. But within himself he only saw all the things we used to do, fishing, movies, the boardwalk, all of which he could still do if he didn't mind being laid up on the couch all the next day. He saw himself as not the Mike Gasque he used to be, but instead, as a failure in the eyes of my sister and myself as he told me on numerous occasions. Knowing all this, how he felt about himself, and how he just wanted out of his pain. In a way I must admit I am pleased he is in a better place, free of all that torments this mortal coil. I mean I miss him but the fact that he is finally in a place where happiness abounds, leaves me with great solace. Then there's still that kid in me who wants his way.

To a certain extent, maybe even a large one I agree with that little boy who wants his hero back. It almost as if, even though I know it would seem selfish to society, I want to say how dare you! Or Come back!!!! Neither, I know, would help. But that doesn't stop the wanting, or the hurt and abandonment I am left feeling. You see, in all my family, and this is kind of sad, but my father and a few close cousins were all I trusted, and with him gone I feel virtually alone to face the world. Not to mention the fact that he will never meet my future wife whom ever she may be, or his grandchildren. One day they will want to know about their grandfather and I have no idea how I'll explain why he's not there. I hate him for these things.

Write my Essay on Suicide: means to an end, or the end of all meaning for me

And in that reader, lays my dilemma, I love and respected that man more than anyone else I have ever known and yet, in the same breath, at times I hate his guts. As for my reaction to said dilemma, this whole paper is it, I am still going through it. As for a solution I offer this, Live in the moment and enjoy the happiness brought to you by each friend and family member because it maybe all there is left of them come tomorrow.

Looking for Alibrandi - Study Notes Part - (Part 1 - Part )

Cultural Issues

Josies family is part of the Italian community in Sydney. Her grandmother settled in Australia with Francesco, a man that was 15 years older than she was and with whom she had been forced into a marriage with. When they did reach Australia, the way that the Australian women behaved and their attitudes to men shocked Josies grandmother.

Josie understands that her Nonnas early years were fraught with difficulty and loneliness, as she was isolated from what she had known. Josie in her discovery comes to find a parallel between certain parts of her life and that of her grandmothers. Her insecurities are essentially those of her grandmother.

Cheap University Papers on Looking for Alibrandi-2

The traditions of the Italian community have refused to die in Josies family and she often questions some of the particular on-going ways. She says culture is nailed into you so deep you cant escape it. Josies journey of discovery essentially teaches her not to be ashamed of who she is, and to cherish the old ways of family. She comes to the realisations that her Nonna is too old to adopt new habits, and that she be appreciated for who she is. Josie realises that her Nonna went through a number of trying experiences that were not completely her own doing. In some sense she understands that fate and external factors have as much to do with the way that we live our lives as our own decisions do.

Josie, however in her journey of discovery fails to make a complete understanding of tolerance of others. When she overhears a girl at her school complain about wogs she breaks her nose. This act demonstrates that Josie does not understand that the Anglo girls have also inherited much tradition, good and bad, from their parents. Parents who knew an Australia that was predominantly white have influenced the Anglo girls at the school. Only since the 150s has Australian become the multicultural society that it is today. The girls who make racist statements are only learning this behaviour from their parents.

The journey of discovery teaches us that while we make our own decisions in life, we are also victims of fate. Nonna, Josie, her family and the girls at the school are all affected by external factors beyond their control. The influence of our parents, friends and our culture will shape who we are as much as what we choose to do.

Relationships

In her interaction with others, Josie meets a range of people with their varied standing in the social order of Sydney. Jacob Coote is local boy who lives in Redfern and goes to a Government high school. We are also introduced to John Barton, the school captain at a wealthy Catholic high school. He is also the son of a politician. In meeting these two individuals, Josie comes to discovery the class barriers that exist in society and the differences between these different groups. She comes to see the differences and the similarities between her life and that of the two boys.

John has great expectation placed upon him by his family and suicide seems to only way out for him. His death is an important part of Josies discovery process as she comes to realise that while she is poor, she is also free to pursue any sort of life that she wants. Johns life, however, was pre-ordained and he had to die in order to achieve his emancipation.

Josie comes to see a number of contrasts in Jacob. He is tough yet sensitive and loves him family. These contradictions are mirrored in the Italian community where a woman must wear black after her husband dies, however he is allowed to remarry. Josie would like to be in love with John and to have people look at her with envy, however it is Jacob that she is attracted to.

Her discovery helps her to realise who her true friends are. Josie does learn later in the novel that she is the most popular girl in the school after she is votes school captain. This comes as a shock as her social standing was something that she worried about.

Fellow students, I'm here today to talk to you about the only 100% safe and effective sexual protection. It works against pregnancy, not to mention HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. I'm referring to abstinence, which basically means not having sex outside of marriage.

I'm not here to preach to you. I'm simply here to inform you of the facts. The fact is that if you have sex outside of marriage, you will pay consequences. They can be emotional, mental, social, physical, or even financial. Either way, you will pay in some form or fashion.

One thing you need to keep in mind is that pregnancy is not a disease. It will not kill you. However, HIV and other STDs easily can. You have a four times greater risk of getting an STD than of getting pregnant. Nearly all STDs are only treatable, not curable. Treatment for most STDs is very painful. For example, if you contract HPV (more commonly known as genital warts), they have to be burned off with a laser. HPV is also the most contagious and most common STD. 47% of sexually active teens have HPV.

Now, on to forms of contraception. There is no form of protection that even comes close to the safeness of abstinence. Let's say you or your girlfriend decides to go on the pill. Sure, it will protect you from pregnancy. But do you think it can protect you from STDs? No, it cannot. Did you know you are 10 times more likely to get an STD while on the pill than while not on the pill? Seems to be an interesting fact, especially considering 51% of teenage girls who are sexually active are on the pill. Now, on to

Help with essay on Abstinence Speech

perhaps the best form of protection beside abstinence, the latex condom. They are the only contraceptives that can protect you from both STDs and pregnancy. However, they are not 100% effective. They can sometimes break if not used or put on correctly. They can also be eaten through if you use an oil-based lubricant along with the condom.

A lot of teenagers believe they could handle being pregnant and raising a child. Little do they know that they'll end up spending a minimum of $80,000 on the child over a period of ten years.

Teenage parents may also say their pregnancy will not affect their education. Statistics show otherwise. A recent poll showed that 0% of teenage parents, both male and female, will not graduate high school and will not go on to attend college.

Some teenagers also believe they'll be able to handle raising a child financially. However, 80% of teens who choose to become parents live below the poverty level.

Some girls may not even worry about becoming pregnant. They know they can go get an abortion if they have to. If the father disagrees with the mother on this matter, that's just too bad. The father has no right to the mother's decision if the couple isn't married. These same rules apply to adoption as well. In my opinion, it is a much better decision to give your baby up for adoption rather than abort it and give it no chance at life. ,000,000 requests for adoptions, in this country alone, will go unanswered each year.

If a couple were to break up anytime before the child turns eighteen, there are two words that will haunt the father for the rest of his life child support. Child support can become very expensive for the father, sometimes so expensive that he is forced to work two jobs in order to pay it. If the father chooses not to pay the child support, not to worry. The social security numbers of both parents are placed on the child's birth certificate. The government will track the father down, and either force him to pay it or take the matter to court. Not to mention, the father will be coined as a "Deadbeat Dad" for the rest of his life.

Now, after what I've told you today, wouldn't you love to save yourself from the consequences of premarital sex? This can be achieved with one simple word abstinence. Think you're ready to have sex? What we need from you is to provide us with your detailed paper instructions for our experienced writers to follow all of your specific writing requirements. Suicide Bombers are known as Martyrs. They are all over the world and they all have their similarities and differences. In the New York Times article, "All Suicide Bombers Are Not Alike" by Joseph Lelyveld has a lot of similarities and several differences with the main character Malli the suicide bomber in the movie "The Terrorist". The NY Times article was written from place in Gaza, and Cairo. The movie was taken place in Sri Lanka.

There are many similarities between Malli and the article. Being a Martyr is a pride to their country and to their family as the article said, "He is about to perform a great deed for his family, his people, and his faith…" Martyr does their suicide bombing not because they have psychological problems. They were not desperate people. Going all the way, they prove themselves to be selfless and brave. Malli wanted to be a Martyr because she wants to free her people and her country. Malli also looked up to her brother also died as a Martyr it was like a proud thing to do. The leader said, "Be proud and brave" at her brother's funeral. Also in the article, one of the Martyr's family members was proud that the Martyr died and the neighbor congratulate that their son is going to be a Martyr. "All agree that someone who ended his life on their land in order to gain rights for his people was a martyr." It is true in the movie too because she risk her life in the camp going off by her self to kill the soldier. In both they have suicide runs as like you been on the real mission and they basically brainwash you. The mission leader would brainwash you and tell you how great would this be if you die for the country and how proud everyone would be because of him/her.

You usually get wish before you do your mission. In the article, the Martyr's family would get a new apartment, jewelry, appliances, etc. Malli didn't want anything, not even a nice dinner before the night she had to do her mission. She rather eats curry rice on a leaf with a person who she considered as a "father" Vasu.

Help with essay on Sucide Bombers

The differences in the movie and from the articles, "From the perspective of Gaza, there were then two kinds of suicide bombing those that advance its cause and those that did not" In the movie, there are two kind of suicide bomber, if you success you are a hero. If you failed to attempt, you are a traitor. Martyrs are not supposed to have feelings but in the movie Malli clearly had feelings for her lover that she always have flashback about him while she was taking a shower. She also felt that Lotus was a little brother to him. Vasu treated her as a part of his family and saying he will be the grandfather of the baby. Last but not least the baby, she does not want to kill the life of her and her lover's. She would probably have no trouble pressing the trigger if she didn't have the baby. In the movie, they said once you die it's a long sleep. But in the article it said once a Martyr completed their mission they will be going straight to heaven.

In the scene of Lotus and Malli, Malli killed the soldier from behind and Lotus called her a Murderer. It was shocking to Malli that one of her "people" calls her a murderer. Not everyone supports Suicide bombing but in Gaza about 78 percent of the people support suicide bombing. It is quite a big portion of the population supports suicide bombing. But not all people support it. In the movie, when they were doing the interview of who wants to be the Martyr. Everyone wanted to take the mission because it was a proud thing to do

In conclusion, it doesn't matter where you from all suicide bombers have their differences and similarities. As you can see from the movie "The Terrorist" and the NY Times Article "All Suicide Bomber are not alike". How can their family be proud of what they are doing? By using their own life to kill people. I hope there aren't suicide bombers no more but I know it's not going to happen after what I read and what I saw on the movies. Suicide bomber is almost becoming a religion. Let's hope nothing like the September 11th incident would ever happen again.

Returning to school, for many, can be a frightening endeavor. This is especially true in my case. I have returned to school on a mission. My mission is to improve my life and others around me by embarking on an educational journey. On a journey such as this one must have goals. Personal goals are set as a guide and I hope to achieve the goals I have set for myself. My personal goals are also important to success in the workplace. Enriching knowledge, learning new skills, breaking bad habits, and the ability to prioritize are noble goals to achieve during a college level education.

My mother always told me that knowledge is the key to success. Finally, after many years I am taking these words of wisdom to heart. Learning as much as I can, about as many subjects as I can is one of my main goals in achieving a higher education. I believe I am beginning a life long journey which will not end until I end. I believe my mother was right. Both her and my father holds degrees in different fields. My mother holds a Masters degree in American History. She taught Native American History and a Southern California university for many years. My father holds a Masters degree in Psychology. I, like my mother, am very interested in history. I believe I will follow in her footsteps and receive knowledge in history until I achieve a Masters degree in history. She was right all along; knowledge is the key to success. However, it is not the only important goal I intend to achieve.

Skills are important in any career. Computer, management, and business skills are among a few of the skills I intend to develop during my recent college endeavor. In this day and age it is imperative to learn how to use the computer. Almost every job, in today's market, requires computer skills. In addition to computer skills, I must learn management skills. The ability to manage people is an important skill in the business world. Finally, maybe most important to a business degree is learning business skills. Managing money and managing people are a few of the skills I intend to learn while at the University of Phoenix. These skills will help me remain current in today's business market. This is yet another fine goal to achieve, but my goal list continues.

One of the many bad habits I need to break is procrastination. Sometimes I wait until the last minute to accomplish a task, such as an essay, making dinner, or even going to bed. I need to learn how to identify tasks and put them in order. Another bad habit I have is being too wordy on assignments. Because I often wait until the last minute to accomplish an assignment I over compensate with paragraphs and sentences that never seem to end. Finally, my worst habit of all is reading too much of a subject which I am not studying. Often I will log on to the WWW and begin surfing for hours, reading anything and everything. Reading is not bad and you can learn a lot from the WWW, but I stay logged on too long and forget about the rest of the world, and forget about assignments. Breaking these habits will be one of my many goals to achieve which brings me to my final goal at this time.

Order College Papers on persoanl goals

Knowledge and skills are advantageous goals to achieve. Yet, I am sure I will achieve none of these goals with out learning how to prioritize. Before I began this adventure I thought I was organized. When I returned to college I had no idea of the amount of work which was entailed. I found myself writing lengthy essays in the early morning hours and in the dark of the night. My schedule was in disarray. One of my goals I hope to achieve is learning how to juggle my schedule and cause less stress on my brain and body.

Without knowledge teachers could not teach. Without knowledge students could not learn. Without skills sales people could not sell. Without skills writers could not write. Without the ability to prioritize I will have a tough time in college. Goals set in the early stages of a college education are important to the learning process. Seeking and conquering these goals can in itself be a very knowledgeable experience.

'The history of corporate structure over the last one hundred and fifty years reflects that it fundamental purpose has been to maximize corporate profit with the view of increasing shareholder wealth.' (httpwww.band.edu.au/law/blr/vol10-/5-carfield.pdf) However , ethical considerations may be compromised with such financial modeling.

'The traditional view of the legal model of the company is a principal-agent model, the directors being the agents and the shareholders the principals. The shareholders, as sole owners and residual risk bearers, are entitled to assume that the company will be run in their interests exclusively' (Grinyer, 16)

The question of whether corporate management adopts strategies consistent with shareholder wealth maximisation is an ongoing issue in corporate finance. Agency problems may arise when management decisions or actions flow from non- value or trivial maximising strategies.

For example, management may seek to increase the size of the firm for the sole purpose of empire building, or they may seek to diversify the firms portfolio in order to increase their own job security. Further , 'the managerial entrenchment thesis suggests that the separation of ownership and control offers managers an array of discretionary behaviors, including shirking, and risk aversion or the taking

of fewer investment risks Each of these ultimately results in present value loss for the firm' (Taylor,000) and are important ethical considerations. These issues can apply to Project A for example, the NPV of the Project is positive, an indication that management should continue with the proposal. However, it is indicated the mines output is highly uncertain and the company is worried about cost overruns and delays due to requiring zoning changes and environmental approvals. Management may use their discretionary powers to avoid the project due to the risk involved, in order to increase their own job security.

This view is supported by Donaldson (184) who observed that managers did not seek to maximise shareholders wealth but sought instead to maximise corporate wealth.

Thus if the financial incentives of corporate managers are dependent on their performance, managers are more likely to adopt a set of strategies which are beneficial to themselves even if these strategies prove to be costly to shareholders. 'Alternatively, private as well as political forces may be the catalysts that drive managerial strategies rather than a goal of value maximisation.'( Taylor 000)

Further, it is 'sometimes argues that, left to themselves, managers would tend to maximize the amount of resources over which they have control over, or more

generally, corporate power or wealth. (Ross, Thompson, Christensen, Westerfield, Jordan 001)

In addressing why such ethical considerations arise, Taylor (000) states that,' of all the economic agents of a firm, corporate managers are the most likely targets for both internal and external pressure. Consequently, they tend to adopt strategies in response to these pressures to create shareholder value. Further, because contracts cannot fully specify the rights and obligations of the parties, opportunities exist for management to make decisions about the use of corporate resources that benefit them personally and at the firms costs. 'This kind of relationship raises agency costs because corporate management do not bear the wealth effects of their own decisions, and dispersed shareholders cannot efficiently monitor corporate management as they would like'. (http//www.allbrightlaw.com.cn/lubbs/wangq.htm)

In summary, management in reality do not attend exclusively to maximising returns for shareholders. 'Modern management frequently declares itself a trustee for employees, customers and stockholders and may even affirm, a social responsibility to a wide variety of societal segments which have a stake in the continued health of the corporation.' (Grinyer 16) Whether this is an attempt by management to

legitimise resource manipulation according to personal agendas, or a valid managerial concept, the issue remains an area of great controversy with significant ethical implications.

Life is often described as a path. Our journey through this world, with its unexpected obstacles and stumbling blocks, is easily compared to one woman's trip to town on a mission of unselfish love, to get medicine for her grandson. Whether the worn path in this story is representative of Phoenix's life, or simply life in general, it is filled with symbols for the obstacles and evils found in any one person's journey through a lifetime.

It isn't difficult to find several examples of symbolism in "A Worn Path." The author, Eudora Welty, uses many, and most of them are nature symbols. The first one that becomes apparent to the reader is the main character's name, "Phoenix Jackson" (105). A phoenix is a mythical bird that rises from the ashes of its own destruction to begin anew. If Phoenix Jackson is seen as a representative of her race after the civil war, it is easy to find a connection. Just as a phoenix will rise from the ashes, so too did the African American people, emerging from their long years of oppression. Or the significance of Phoenix's name could be taken as symbolic of her own resilience. Her devotion to her grandson and her determination to care for him are there to see in her arduous journey, which the nurse comments on "She makes these trips just as regular as clockwork" (110).

Other symbols soon become evident to the reader. When Phoenix climbs the hill, she remarks to herself that it "seems like there is chains about my feet, time I get this far" (106). This hill is symbolic of the hard life Phoenix has traveled in order to get what she wants. Soon after, the old woman comes across a thorn bush, which caught her dress. Phoenix says to the bush, "Thorns, you doing your appointed work. Never want to let folks passno sir" (106). The fact that Phoenix feels that "it was not possible to allow the dress to tear" shows her unwillingness to compromise her beliefs when faced with an obstacle in life (106). Nearly everything on Phoenix's journey is symbolic of the trials in life, from the log on the creek, which Phoenix calls "the trial," to the snakes that she has encountered on previous treks to Natchez (106). "A pleasure I don't see no two-headed snake coming around that tree, where it come once" (107). Snakes, of course, are one of the most widely used symbols for evil, deception, and danger. All of these are found in any given life.

As for the question that some may have about whether or not the grandson lives, the answer can be found in Welty's frequent references to death and supernatural spirits. Phoenix notes that "down in the hollow was the mourning dove…it was not too late for him"(106). Is she referring to the dove and the time of day, or is the true meaning applied inwardly? Is Phoenix telling herself that it is not too late to grieve for her dead grandson?

Phoenix's vision, that of a little boy who brings her "a little plate with a slice of marble cake on it," may very well be the image of her grandson (107). Next, she notices "big dead trees, like black men with one arm…standing in the purple stalks of the withered cotton field" (107). And immediately after that, Phoenix spots a buzzard watching her. Next, she passes through "a field of dead corn," and mistakes a scarecrow for a ghost (107). "Ghost…who be you the ghost of? For I have heard of nary a death nearby" (107).

Her constant connections between her surroundings and death suggest that Phoenix is denying to herself the reality of her grandson's death, and understandably so. "We is the only two left in the world" (110). If she were to let go of her grandson's memory, Phoenix would be left without the reassurance of a family to come home to, to share her life with. For the old woman, it is better to have life, however uncertain, than to concede to the absolute certainty of death.

Overall, this entire story is symbolic of how we live our lives. The path traveled by Phoenix represents the path that each individual takes through his or her lifetime. And each person is guided, as Phoenix is, by the habits of love.

Key Competitors

Australia is an industrial country which has a high development in the technology and telecommunication. That's the reason why the competition between companies is completely strong and increasing. Between these companies, there are 4 leaders as follow Telstra Corporation Limited, Single Optus Pty Limited, Vodafone and Hutchison Telecommunication Limited.

In reality, Telstra has a deep history from the year 101 and could be considered as the largest telecommunication service provider in Australia. It has occupied approximately 40%(00) stock in the whole Australia market share. Today, Telstra supplies two digital networks GSM and CDMA. Both networks offer a range of advance services, including voicemail and messaging. Its CDMA which was built to replace the old analogue network covers 7.5 percent of the Australia's population while its GSM network covers 5. percent. As we can see, how Telstra influence Australia.

In the year 0 June 00, the total revenues was generated was $,540 million and earnings before interest and tax of $1,54 million. This number could point out the success of Telstra in the Australia telecommunication market comparing with lost of other companies. And Telstra has developed rapidly because the revenue of the year 0 June 00 is much higher then previous period ( $,15 million and earning of $1, million). Moreover, this growth was also increased by the strong subscriber growth ( up to 14.8 percent). In the immediate future Telstra will focus on the delivery of various high speed data application and expect the profitability about 5.7-10.8 percent for the period of 00-00.

The most redoubtable rival of Telstra is Optus Pty Limited which is the second largest provider of telecommunication services in Australia. This company keep about 5 percent stock of the market share. Although, Optus is not a long historic company and was only first formed in 11, it's still achieved a range of success. Until 1 march 00, Single Optus is one of Australia's largest listed companies with the operation of four networks, fixed, mobile, satellite, and broadband, that envelops all of Australia.

Actually, in 1, all the revenues of Optus came from reselling services from Telstra's network. Today Optus is a leading provider of integrated communication services, national and international long distance services, local telephoning services, business network services, internet services and premium TV. Maybe, in the next few years Optus will completely separate from Telstra.

In September 1, the group of Optus was restructured in to three obvious defined business divisions mobile (48 percent of revenue of the year ended 1 March 00), Data and Business Services (1 percent) and consumer and multimedia ( 1percent). In 001-0, Optus is thought to have 4.54 million mobile customers, this happy result bring the increasing of the market share from . percent to 4 percent at 1 March 001. At the same time , it is believed that the other divisions also occupied much profit. With this rapid expansion of Optus, It will be most fearful competitor for Telstra.

Another Company should be discussed is Vodafone Limited. Vodafone awarded the telecommunication license in December 1, after that this group invested $.7 billion in creating network and services offering in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra in September 1. After a decade, it becomes the third leader in telecommunication in Australia. Like many other companies, almost revenues of Vodafone are collected from reselling services for Telstra, they have about .454 million customers. And bring it a market share of 17 percent . This development would impact much to the competitive environment and speed up the increase of Australia Telecommunication market

In addition, Hutchison Telecommunication Limited which has percent of the market share also keeps an important position in Telecommunication market, especially paging and messaging services. However, this company is no running a good business, because of the revenues' s fall from 418.6 to 7. million in December 00. HTAl is thought to be out of the competitive race between the biggest Telecommunication companies in Australia.

Only a few slow moving tumbleweeds occupied the desert terrain. The endless plain of dust and hot dry dirt seemed to have no occupants, it was as if the ground hadnt been walked over for years. Suddenly, the seemingly endless silence was broken by a gradual fade into a chaotic rumbling. The sound grew more ferocious and eventually became unbearably loud. Just then in the distance behind a cliff, a cloud of dust appeared and out of it raced seven cars racing at insane speeds. It looked as if the cars had been built from scraps of hard iron and metal for the sole purpose was to fight against other contenders in this barren wasteland.

In front of the pack was a sleek fast car, being pursued by six other cars, but one could tell the leading car was an extremely experienced driver possessing total control of the vehicle. The dark and mysterious figure behind the wheel of the leading car was wearing a helmet with the name MAX on the side of it. Max reached across the seat and pulled out a shotgun, and after putting it out the window shot a round back at the following pack of cars. Immediately after one car at the back swerved dangerously and rolled several times before bursting into flames sending pieces of metal all the barren wasteland.

A pack of cars was quickly approaching a deep canyon, they would have to break hard now to avoid hitting the edge of it. Max didnt slow down, Max pushed the accelerator with such an extreme force and determination that it seemed as if the car screamed in pain as it lurched forward, faster than ever. Then the car leapt off the canyons edge and became airborne. Gliding through the air without any control of the car didnt seem to faze Max at all. The car seemed to delicately touch down on the other side as if there was a bridge. The following pack ended up being obliterated against the other side of the canyons jaws.

Max was finally alone, killing off the opposition had been easy, almost too easy! Searching for the final destination was difficult due to the similarity of the horizon in every direction. Yet eventually a dark mass loomed up, Looks like the bastards hideout, Max muttered. Taking care of them will accomplish my vendetta for what they did to my love.

Cheap Custom Essays on Revenge at it's Sweetest

Five leather-clad warriors covered in spikes and armed to the teeth with blades and guns guarded the entrance. Max pulled a grenade off the seat and after skidding sideways threw it at the guards blowing them to pieces showing no sign of emotion. The grill on the front of the car, designed for ramming, sent the gates to the base flying in all directions. The car shuddered to a halt and Max kicked the door of car out and ran across and path, guns blazing and claiming the life of two enemies standing guard in a tower. Immediately after Max grabbed a grenade launcher and fired it towards another tower, demolishing it and causing yet another death due to the falling tower crushing another enemy. Max then walked up to the entrance of the tower.

Inside the tower a massive spiked fisted gladiator greeted Max who reacted quickly with a fierce headbutt to the nose. The gladiator fell to the ground clenching his nose which had been broken like wet cardboard. Max, now heavily heard distress calls from up above. Max ran passed the gladiator, shooting him in the head and headed up the stairs into a room with glass everywhere, overlooking the whole camp. Sitting in the corner gagged and tied was a familiar figure. Darling, its you shouted Max in great relief. Max, I never thought you would make it replied the crying figure. Quickly, there is a bomb tied to me, HELP ME, HELP ME, PLEASE. Max ran over to the figure and with one quick daft movement of a knife, released the beloved and ran for the window realizing that only 15 seconds remained before the bomb detonated. With the figure in arms, Max broke through the window landing in a pool just as a massive explosion blanketed the whole top floor. Max surfaced in the pool with beloved in arms. Max wiped a grimy hand across her battered yet tender face.

I love you Edward

I love you too, Maxine

The End.

Our family is our most underrated asset? It all depends on what type of family you are in, yes for some and no for others, and then there are the people who don't even have families. Every family is individual and there really is no such thing as a normal family so how could it be possible to categorise so freely? But the fact remains that yes our family is an underrated asset and no it isn't.

Families can be severely underrated, in the case of a happy family is it simply the child' expectation that when they get home their mother will be there making them dinner, or the mothers expectation that the child will be coming home for dinner? In these cases the family is an asset, and one that is seen as a part of every day life. Most members of this sort of family never would have considered what life would be like without their family. They have no need to, after all what is the chance of it breaking up?

And what about the families that do break up, people don't really understand how important a family is until it's gone. The shock of having to live away from a family when you are so used to living with one can come as a severe shock. It's only then that you realise how much you took your family for granted. If you had known how important your family was then maybe you would have put in a bit more effort to maintain it. But when families do 'break apart' it is by far the children who are effected the worse, especially if they are young because they will never really know what it's like to have a 'full family'. Therefore it's hard to tell if when they are older they will even view their families as an asset, after all when you have two mums and two dads and half and step brothers and sisters exactly where do you fit into the equation?

Then we must also take into account the children and adults in this world who have never know a family, or have been separated from one for so long they don't understand the concept of a family anymore. Extended family must also be taken into consideration when weighing up the importance of a family. Surely children who grow up with grandparents enjoy life a lot more? Or they may hate them, maybe it's the grandparents who hold the family together or the parents or the children. Each family has its own driving force and level of importance in an individual's life.

If the family is not valued by an individual you may often find that friends have a high weigh in their life. After all friends are the family we choose for our selves, who's to say if everyone could pick their family they would pick the same people? And just about every person on earth must have wished they never had a little brother or sister, if you could choose not to have them in your life would you?

Family can be someone's most underrated asset, but it can also be someone else's most overrated asset. Every family is different and each to its own so it is wrong to categorise so freely. The importance of a family is not up to the family. It is up to the individuals who make up the family and even then the value of a family to the individuals who make it up may be different, some people may overrate and others underrate. For anyone to fully understand exactly how important their family is to them they must first understand exactly how important they are to their family.

I am proud to say that in both sides of my family writing in Spanish is a gift. Several of my relatives were able to excel in the field. What is important to know about these people is that in one form or another they made a difference in the world. Alfonso Iberri wrote a couple of books of poetry. He also wrote a very famous saga on the port city of Guaymas called El Viejo Guaymas.

Writing in a time of difficulty and destitution Alfonso Iberri was able to write poems about love and romance while also writing about nature and life. One of his books was published in 11. In most recent account, my grand aunt wrote three books also on poetry. One of the books received a couple of prizes through out Mexico. Some of the poems in the book have symbolic meanings in my home. In the book Amapa by Carmen Maldonado some of the poems are told in my relatives' weddings before the bride goes in to the chapel.

Other writers in my family include the historian Alfonso Taracena. Even though I do not know much about this man I can tell he was good at his job. He wrote one of the most recognized books in Mexican history called La Verdadera Revolucion Mexicana. The well-known Mexican journalist wrote an article when my great granduncle passed away. In addition to the authors that I have mentioned several other of my great grandparents have been newspaper editors. To conclude I can proudly say that good writers flourish in my families' heritage.

There are great writers in my family but also hard workers. My father's side of the family carries with them a great legacy of hard workers. Through hard work several of my relatives have been able to succeed in life. Many of my great grandparents and relatives have been hard workers. But in this specific journal I want to elaborate on the Ochoa lineage. I realized that my great-grandfather, Manuel Ochoa, my grandfather, Adrian Ochoa, My dad, Gilberto Ochoa have several things in common. As far back as I could go I realized that most of the men in the family succeeded in their work.

Manuel Ochoa, a man that cared dearly for his family made a living by working as an accountant. His business started slow, but sure enough he started making his fortune. After he passed away, my grandfather was left with very little and basically on his own. After some hard work he decided that he could begin a trucking company in the city. It grew more and more as the city grew with it as well. The business grew a lot and that is where my dad comes in. My dad helped my grandfather and together they made the business grow immensely. Today, all my aunt's and uncle's live off the business. My sister is now my dad's right hand. Even though she just finished college he is working very hard to make sure that his life is headed for success. I am very proud of my dad because he not only runs my grandfather's business but is a successful doctor.

In the midst of a hard life in Spain three of my great grandparents Joselino, Wenceslao, and Luis Maldonado left the country in search for a better life in the new world. Nobody knows the exact dates but in the first half of the nineteenth century they arrived and landed on a Mexican beach. Not much is known about them but several of their adventures are told in my home. It turns out that these three brave young kids that

were no more than seventeen years of age started an unforgettable journey that would take them around Mexico. With out any food, money or a home they managed to survive.

In Magdalena Sonora one of my great granduncles was killed by a group of Apache Indians. The other two brothers escaped and settled in a small port city called Guaymas. It was there where they started their family. Some of these men have great stories behind them. Four generations ago, one of the three brothers had the opportunity to prove his courage. In 185 a French aristocrat wanted to conquer that part of the country. At the time Mexico did not have many port cities. My great granduncle fought with courage to protect his land and family but was killed in action. Today he is considered a hero and a defender of his country. Every year on the thirteenth of July the heroes of the battle are remembered in a small ceremony.

Even with excellent instruction, many children fail to make adequate progress in reading (Snow, Burns, & Griffin, 18). Despite long-term, continual investigations of instructional programs, large numbers of students failing to become fluent readers remains a critical problem in American education (cf. National Reading Panel, 000). Even with quality instruction and an appropriate curriculum, some children still need additional assistance. Tutoring can be a significant supplement, enhancement, or even replacement for classroom reading instruction (Snow, Burns, & Griffin, 18). Older students, volunteers, and parents can all serve as tutors in reading (Denton & Hasbrouck, 1). Here we suggest some simple, effective methods that tutors can use to help beginning readers, as well as older students who may need some additional support. We also include ways to evaluate the effectiveness of the tutoring and to provide feedback to the tutor.

Tutoring in reading means providing individual guided practice and corrective feedback to a student, where the student primarily reads aloud from meaningful, connected text at an appropriate level of difficulty. Repeated reading with a model, oral reading with monitoring and feedback, and error monitoring with word pattern practice, word review, and sentence review are methods tutors can use to improve reading performance. Group teaching techniques, loosely supervised free reading, and skill practice exercises are not included in our definition. If skill practice or vocabulary development exercises are determined to he appropriate for the student being tutored, those activities should be directly linked to the reading of connected text.

Encouraging reluctant readers to engage in simultaneous, repeated reading with a tutor is an effective method to improve their fluency (rate + accuracy + good expression). Careful timing and control of the repeated readings allow the tutor to foster independent reading skills. This is how the approach works

Introduction. The tutor introduces a passage that is likely to take approximately -5 minutes for the student to read aloud. The tutor introduces the text by reading the title, describing generally what the passage is about, asking the student what he or she knows already about the topic, and giving the student a purpose or reason to read (Lets read this story to find out.

Simultaneous reading. The tutor reads the passage with the student, sitting close beside or slightly behind, so as not to be a visual distraction (close enough to speak softly and be heard). The tutor reads slowly in a soft, clear voice, while the student reads aloud at the same time. The tutor regulates speed of reading to permit the student to keep up. Both student and tutor track progress with their fingers on their own pages, moving their fingers smoothly and steadily across each line. The student is not permitted to hesitate while sounding out a word. The tutors oral reading continues at an even pace, although the overall speed can be adjusted slightly up or down. While reading, the tutor listens carefully to whether the student is leading, with, or following the tutors reading of difficult words. Initially, most students will follow, (i.e., will copy or repeat what they hear). With repeated readings and confidence, the student will read more nearly with the tutor and eventually will lead. As the student comes closer to reading with the tutor, the tutor should soften his or her voice. As the student leads more, the tutor should soften the voice and slow the pace slightly, permitting the student to lead even more.

Simultaneous repeated readings. After -5 minutes of continuous reading, the student will need a brief break to rest the eyes, neck, and shoulders and to stretch and breathe deeply. Then promptly begin rereading. Depending upon the students motivation, two to five rereadings of a single text may be beneficial. With each rereading, the tutor should (a) maintain a smooth pace and (b) encourage the student to read with and to lead by softening the voice and dropping back slightly when the student leads.

What is the purpose of education? This is a question that has troubled everyone from scholars and teachers to average men and women. There are so many different opinions to this topic. Education has many purposes, however I believe gaining morals and becoming well rounded is the most important; Education also has a lot to do with the teacher. A good example of a teacher with bad and good teaching skill is Miss Ferenczi in the story, "Gryphon", by Charles Baxter.

In the story, "Gryphon", by Charles Baxter education and teaching styles are the main focus. A class of young children experiences a new substitute teacher. Her name is Miss Ferenczi. She definitely has a different way of teaching then they are used to. Instead of reading everything out of the book she tells stories that relate to the text but have happened to her. By doing this she shows that all education does not come from a book. You can get education in your everyday life and activities. Miss Ferenczi also relates arithmetic to life in general. She tells the children that six times eleven is sometimes sixty-eight and other times it is sixty-six. Miss Ferenczi also tells the students that they can think what they like and when their teacher returns the answer will be sixty-six again, and it will be that way for the rest of their lives. She has allowed them to be open minded to change and is implying that one thing might be right to one person but it could be wrong to another.

Miss Ferenczi seems to have a funny way about her. She has many good characteristics and teaching skills, although she can go a little too far on some things in this story. The first day she is there she skips over the Pledge of Allegiance. She tells the class that she is not in the mood for the Pledge of Allegiance. In my opinion that shows the class that it is okay to not do something if you are not in the mood. Well, in life we all have to do things we do not want to do. The Pledge of Allegiance reminds us to be thankful for country. Not doing it because you are not in the mood is showing disrespect. When Miss Ferenczi does the spelling list she sees a student having trouble with a word. She tells him that she dislikes that word so if you do not like a word then you do not have to use it. That goes back to my opinion on having to do things that we do not always want to do. Just because you do not understand something does not mean you can give up. Especially when it relates to getting an education. Miss Ferenczi also brings tarot cards to class. After reading a student's future she tells him he is going to die. Props are helpful in teaching education but as a teacher you must keep in mind the morals of other students. Many people find thing like that offending. Bringing the cards to show and tell about the different cultures would have been okay but she should not have used them.

Even though this story shows many examples of what the purpose of education is, I believe we often over look and forget a few other reasons for education. The purpose is not only to get you basic smarts, like reading, writing, and arithmetic but also it is generally a time when we learn who we are. We pick up either good or bad social skills. Which I believe determines if we are shy or outgoing. And we also gain our common sense and learn how to face problems, which determines how well we do living in the real world and facing society.

Yes, education is very important today. However the way you are taught can determine how much you learn. The article, "Good Citizenship The Purpose of Education" by Eleanor Roosevelt has a lot of good information pertaining to the teacher's responsibility of education."The teacher's personality and character are of greatest importance"(Roosevelt ). Going back to Miss Ferenczi, she had a very open minded personality. In some of the subjects she taught she showed a lot of interest. By doing this the students willingly paid attention in class. I believe that showing interest and enthusiasm is the key to being a great teacher.

Although Miss Ferenczi approaches teaching differently she is still a good teacher. She is not perfect but I believe she does a good thing by trying to help the students see things a little more open minded. If we do not have education we will lack in many needed characteristics. The two most important are being well rounded and having morals.
