Descriptive
It was night-time now but the sun would soon rise. Two companions stood on the edge of a carnivorous forest. It was gigantic it's dark boughs hung onmiously as if waiting on some lone unsuspecting person before they would come crashing down. A gentle breeze awoke and stirred the leaves into a gentle rustle, making it sound as if many voices were whispering among themselves in an unknown language. Gently the breeze passed and the whispering faded and died. The only sound now was the breathing of the two companions. Perhaps once every so often there would be a scurrying of a small nocturnal creature observing the two companions before rushing off to it's home before sunrise.
The two companions stood side by side not speaking; just enjoying each other's company. They seemed to know each other very well like they had done this so many times before that there weren't enough numbers to count. One was tall with deep black hair, so black that it made the night look bright. His light blue eyes seemed to glow with no light as if they themselves shone. His companion was short with fiery red hair that seemed to illuminate his face. His eyes seemed to swallow light. But they still shone with warmth and happiness.
Once this place had been bustling with people moving about, living out their lives. Before that, wars had been fought over this land, lives had been lost and reputations made. But none now remembered this. Nature reclaimed the land as it always does in the end. There was no one left who remembered all of the things before them. They were the only one's left now in a world of darkness and timelessness.
A reddish-yellow tinge slowly appeared on the distant horizon. The land seemed to change shades of grey in an instant. All was completely still now. Yet the slow rhythmic breathing of the two people continued. The time was drawing nearer. Then one of them slowly, bit by bit, turned his head to the north, looking as the familiar sight. Great mountains thrust up from the earth where their snowy peaks glimmered in sunshine that had not yet washed over the land. Many waterfalls cascaded over precarious ledges falling hundreds of feet. Glimmering in the creeping sunshine onto unseen ledges then plunging over the lip of these secret pools went into darkness and shadow where they disappeared. They were too far away to hear the gushing and flowing noises, but all the same he smiled to know they were there. He turned to his companion who was still gazing into the deep vale many leagues away in he south. The small pockets of ground fog was floating listlessly around. He too smiled as he turned his head back around to exchange looks with his friend. Their eyes met only for a second. But they could each tell what the other was thinking. They both smiled content, and happy again. They turned back west where the sky had turned an overwhelming red. It seemed as if the sky itself was on fire but without the sun to fuel it. All at once the two of them felt fear, joy, happiness and doubt. Something was different this morning. This started an avalanche of emotion what did it mean did it mean anything? Their eyes met again and they came to the same conclusion. If something was going to happen they should watch the sunrise as they always did. They would both wait and see.
Slowly the yellow mingled into red to form the usual pre-sunrise glow. The high up clouds that were unseen before were now as bright as the sky itself. One side of them was a vivid pink and the other was a steely grey. The top of the sun lifted above the horizon to bathe everything in a dazzling light. For a minute the companions were blinded by the light their eyes having grown accustomed to the dark and the beauty and splendour of the scene was revealed. To the north six separate waterfalls poured into a large lake. Its surface like glass shining bright blue reflecting the rays of sunshine like a million diamonds. And to the south in the dark valley there was a wide river, Flowing and gurgling heading away to the horizon. The sun was now fully up but partially obscured by cloud. This threw shafts of light down over the landscape. And for a single fleeting moment it seemed to the companions as if the world was perfect. The moment was completely silent and it was broken only by a cockerel crowing in the distance.
They were both suddenly brought back to their senses. And without looking at each other or ever exchanging a word they walked away in to a world filled with light. A solitary figure emerged slowly from the forest. He watched the retreating backs of the two companions. And then he two surveyed the landscape. After a while he too retreated to the forest, now light and airy, filled with the twittering of birds and happiness.
